A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)-time division multiplexing (TDM) passive optical network (PON) remote terminal (RT) is provided. The wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)-time division multiplexing (TDM) passive optical network (PON) remote terminal (RT), includes: a WDM-TDM converter configured to convert a WDM downstream optical signal that is received from a central office terminal (COT) into a TDM downstream optical signal or to convert a TDM upstream optical signal that is received from an optical network terminal (ONT) into a WDM upstream optical signal; an error detector configured to detect an error; and a controller configured to, in response to an error being detected, transmit the WDM upstream optical signal to the COT via a first standby link or transmit the TDM downstream optical signal to the ONT via a second standby link.

A data transmission system in an EPON includes a parser classifying frames generated in each block, and transmitting the frames to a block. A scheduler performs multiplexing of frames, then, during a transmission time permitted by an OLT, determines a transmission sequence of the frames and transmits the frames. A MPCP slave processes messages transmitted from the OLT, generates response messages on the transmitted messages, and maintains time synchronization with the OLT A processor interface conveys frames transmitted from the OLT to a processor, frames primitives transmitted from the processor, and transmits the primitives to the OLT. A register stores a value used during generation of frames in each block, a value for system control, and a value acquired from MPCP control frames.

A communication node system for an Ethernet-PON includes: an LLID register for storing an LLID being an allocated identifier; a preamble generator for generating a PON preamble; a CRC generator for generating a CRC for the preamble; a transmission connector for combining transport data with the CRC-including preamble to generate a transport frame, and forwarding the transport frame; a reception connector for receiving the frame and dividing the frame into a preamble and received data; a filter for extracting an LLID from the preamble, comparing the extracted LLID with the LLID stored in the register, and selectively filtering the extracted LLID; and a received frame generator for discarding the received data, or combining the received data with the preamble to generate a received frame.

A PON slave controller for use in a PON ONU system capable of processing in unit of byte outputs an enable signal to external for a mini-slot payload and receives a byte input signal for enabling usage of an arbitrary MAC (Medium Access Control) technique loading arbitrary data in a mini-slot. An ATM-PON ONU controlling apparatus of the present invention includes a cell receiving unit for transferring an ATM cell through a receiving UTOPIA interfacing unit to external and transferring a message in a PLOAM cell, a cell transmitting unit for loading the ATM cell received through a transmitting UTOPIA interfacing unit in a granted slot and transferring in upstream and downstream by loading the message being on standby in payload of the PLOAM cell when the PLAOM cell is transmitted, and a message processing unit for setting internal signals by processing the received message or instructing operation of a plurality of functional blocks, and transferring the message requested by the plurality of functional blocks through the cell transmitting unit.

A multicasting system and method for use in a shared memory-based switch that includes an input subqueue reading block for reading out data inputted thereto, selecting one bit from an output port bitmap at a time and outputting output port information of one bit and class information as a data stream together with an enable signal. The system also includes a queue number encoding block for encoding the bitmap type of output port information provided thereto from the input subqueue reading means, creating a queue number of the output subqueues based on the encoded output port information and the class information and outputting the same together with an enable signal; and an output subqueue writing block for writing an assigned non-use address of the output subqueues in a tail address of corresponding output subqueue, responsive to the information from the input subqueue reading means and replacing a subsequent tail address of the corresponding output subqueue with a newly assigned non-use address, thereby writing a corresponding pointer in the corresponding output subqueue.
