An apparatus and a method for configuring and managing/controlling a cluster, which is a set of Base Stations (BSs) for transmitting signals cooperatively, are provided. The method includes broadcasting cluster set information indicating information about a plurality of clusters including a serving BS to a User Equipment (UE), receiving a report of information about Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) of control signals transmitted from BSs included in the plurality of clusters from the UE, and assigning any one of the plurality of clusters to a cluster for servicing the UE based on the information about the RSSIs of the control signals.

Multi-tier clustering apparatus in wireless communication system and method thereof

A method and apparatus for improving a mobile problem caused by a narrow handover region in a boundary region between virtual cells constructed by a plurality of small base stations are provided. A plurality of Virtual Cells (VCs) include a plurality of Distributed Base Stations (DBSs) whose VCs cooperatively communicate with each other. An Intermediate Distributed Base Station (I-DBS) is located in a region where adjacent at least two VCs among the plurality of VCs are superimposed, and belongs to a different VC according to a time division scheme.

Method and apparatus for seamless handover operation in a wireless communication system

Provided is an apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving signals in a communication system. A base station allocates a quasi-dedicated control channel (QDCCH) to a first mobile station (MS), and allocates the QDCCH allocated to the first MS, to a second MS for a preset time. An MS receives a QDCCH allocated from the base station. If there is data to transmit to the base station, the MS determines whether the QDCCH is allocated to another MS different from the MS. If it is determined that the QDCCH is allocated to the MS itself, the MS transmits the data to the base station over the QDCCH.

Apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving signal in a communication system

A system and method for transmitting resource allocation information in a wireless communication system is provided. A transmitter transmits resource allocation information mapped to a current time interval in a first region to a receiver, and transmits resource allocation information mapped to a next time interval in a second region. When receiving the resource allocation information of the second region, the receiver notifies the transmitter whether the resource allocation information has been received. The transmitter receives notification that the resource allocation information of the second region has been received and transmits resource allocation information mapped to a subsequent time interval in the second region.

A method of reporting channel state information by a Mobile Station (MS) in a mobile communication system is disclosed. The method includes measuring a state of a downlink channel for the entire frequency band, determining a first Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) level corresponding to the measured channel state, and reporting the determined MCS level to a Base Station (BS).

A method of compressing uplink control information in a wireless communication system where an MSS scans neighbor BSs upon request from a serving BS and transmits neighbor BS information to the serving BS. In the method, the serving BS broadcasts a neighbor advertisement message including the BS ID of at least one neighbor BS about which the serving BS wants to acquire information, and the BS ID of the at least one neighbor BS. The MSS then scans a channel from the at least one neighbor BS and transmits a scanning result along with a BS index of the at least one neighbor BS to the serving BS.

Method of compressing control information in a wireless communication system

A method quickly resuming a downlink service in a hard handover in a cellular mobile communication system. To provide the fast downlink service to an MS during a hard handover from an OBS to an NBS, the NBS receives handover user information from the OBS, and generates an MS temporary ID using the handover user information to identify the MS. If user data is generated for the MS before a connection is established for traffic transmission between the MS and the NBS, the NBS transmits the user data to the MS on an HCCH using the MS temporary ID.

Method of providing a fast downlink service in a hard handover in a cellular communication system

A method of scheduling uplink resources in a wireless communication system supporting VoIP service is provided. A BS allocates an identical amount of the resource continuously until an uplink data rate is changed by an SS's request for a data rate change. When the data rate is changed, the SS reports this event to the BS so that the BS allocates an amount of resource corresponding to the requested data rate.

Uplink scheduling method in VoIP

An HARQ method for guaranteeing a QoS in a wireless communication system is provided. In a transmitting apparatus using a HARQ for transmitting packet data in a wireless communication system, a retransmission controller determines the size of redundancy information for correcting transmission errors in packet data, and a transmitter transmits the redundancy information of the determined size upon request for a retransmission of the packet data. Transmission of redundancy information of a variable size at each retransmission satisfies the QoS required for each user, maximizes a data throughput, and allows for the efficient reception of an ACK or a NACK for the redundancy information.
