An energy storage system according to an aspect of the present disclosure includes a control container having a battery system controller (BSC), a master controller connected to the BSC through a first communication line, and a bank battery management system (BBMS) connected to the BSC through a second communication line; and a battery container including a slave controller connected to the master controller through the first communication line, and a rack battery management system (RBMS) connected to the BBMS through the second communication line and for monitoring a state of a corresponding battery rack.

The apparatus for controlling charge and discharge of the secondary battery includes the power control unit calculates an amount of discharging power of the secondary battery, and when voltage value of the secondary battery is less than a preset reference voltage value, outputs a compensation charge control signal to charge the secondary battery with an amount of charging power obtained by adding an amount of power compensation to the calculated amount of discharging power. According to the present disclosure, the problem of a charge amount of the secondary battery reducing gradually with increasing charge and discharge cycles of the secondary battery may be prevented by compensating for the charge amount of the secondary battery.

An energy storage apparatus includes a chamber including a receiving space therein, battery racks including first and second battery rack groups positioned in the receiving space and spaced apart from each other while facing each other with reference to a center of the receiving space, an upper duct positioned above the receiving space configured to supply cooling fluid to a cooling space which is a space between the first battery rack group and the second battery rack group, a cooling unit positioned outside the receiving space and configured to cool the cooling fluid, and a fluid moving member comprising a moving space where the cooling fluid heated after cooling the battery racks moves to the cooling unit, in which the cooling unit is supplied with the heated cooling fluid from the moving space, cools the supplied cooling fluid, and then supplies a resultant fluid to the upper duct.

The present disclosure discloses an apparatus and method for maintaining a charge amount of a secondary battery. The present disclosure reduces a charge amount or increases a discharge amount when a larger charge amount than a required proper charge amount is charged in the secondary battery. Also, the present disclosure reduces a discharge amount or increases a charge amount when a smaller charge amount than a required proper charge amount is charged in the secondary battery. Through this, a proper charge amount may be maintained.

The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for varying a usable band range of a battery. The apparatus for varying a usable band range of a battery according to the present invention comprises a sensor for measuring and outputting an electrical characteristic value of the battery; and a controller for calculating the amount of charged or discharged energy of the battery from the electrical characteristic value and varying a usable band range of the battery that is charged and discharged, to maintain the pre-established amount of usable energy depending on the degradation degree of the battery. In accordance with the present invention, a usable band range of a battery can be established depending on the degradation degree of the battery, thereby improving the life time thereof.
