A lighting device includes a light source, a first liquid crystal cell over the light source, and a second liquid crystal cell over the first liquid crystal cell. The light source includes light-emitting elements arranged in a matrix shape with m rows and n columns. The first and second liquid crystal cells each include: a first substrate; first electrode groups located over the first substrate and arranged in a matrix shape with m rows and n columns; a liquid crystal layer over the first electrode groups; and a second substrate over the liquid crystal layer. In each of the first and the second liquid crystal cells, the first electrode groups each have first electrodes extending in a row direction, and the light-emitting elements in a jth row and a kth column overlaps the first electrode group located in the jth row and the kth column.

Lighting device and optical element

An optical device comprises a first liquid crystal cell, a second liquid crystal cell overlapped with the first liquid crystal cell. Each of the first liquid crystal cell and the second liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate arranged with a first electrode extending in a direction inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to a first direction, a second substrate arranged with a second electrode extending in a direction inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to a second direction, and a liquid crystal layer. An extension direction of the first electrode and an that of the second electrode intersect each other without being perpendicular. The extension directions of the first electrode and the second electrode in the first liquid crystal cell and that of the first electrode and the second electrode in the second liquid crystal cell are different from each other.

Optical device

Disclosed is an illumination device including a light source, a first liquid crystal cell over the light source, and a second liquid crystal cell over the first liquid crystal cell. Each of the first liquid crystal cell and the second liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate, a plurality of first lower electrodes and a plurality of second lower electrodes driven independently, a first liquid crystal layer, and a second substrate. The first substrate has a first region and a second region. The plurality of first lower electrodes is located over the first region and extends in a column direction. The plurality of second lower electrodes is located over the second region and extends in the column direction. The first liquid crystal layer is located over the plurality of first lower electrodes and the plurality of second lower electrodes. The second substrate is located over the first liquid crystal layer.

Illumination device and optical element

A liquid crystal light control device in an embodiment according to the present invention includes a first liquid crystal cell, a second liquid crystal cell overlapping the first liquid crystal cell, a third liquid crystal cell overlapping the second liquid crystal cell, and a fourth liquid crystal cell overlapping the third liquid crystal, each of the first liquid crystal cell, the second liquid crystal cell, the third liquid crystal cell, and the fourth liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate arranged with a first electrode having a strip pattern, a second substrate arranged with a second electrode having a strip pattern, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate and the second substrate are arranged with a longitudinal direction of the strip pattern of the first electrode and second electrode intersecting.

Liquid crystal light control device

A liquid crystal light control device includes a plurality of liquid crystal cells arranged in a stack. Each of the plurality of liquid crystal cells includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposite the first substrate, a first electrode and a second electrode both of which have a strip pattern arranged on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate, a first alignment film on the first substrate and a second alignment film on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The strip pattern is arranged alternately with the first electrode and the second electrode, an alignment direction of the first alignment film is aligned with a direction of extension of the strip pattern, and an alignment direction of the second alignment film is arranged intersecting the alignment direction of the first alignment film.

Liquid crystal light control device and lighting device

A liquid crystal light control device in an embodiment according to the present invention includes a first liquid crystal cell, and a second liquid crystal cell overlapping the first liquid crystal cell. Each of the first liquid crystal cell and the second liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate arranged with a first electrode having a strip pattern, a second substrate arranged with a second electrode having a strip pattern, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. A longitudinal direction of the strip pattern of the first electrode and a longitudinal direction of the strip pattern of the second electrode are arranged to intersect at an angle in the range of 45 degrees±10 degrees.

According to an aspect, an optical element includes: a first substrate including a first electrode; a second substrate stacked on the first substrate and including a second electrode; a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; a sealing member extending along an outer periphery of the liquid crystal layer; a first spacer provided on an inner side of the sealing member; and a conductive column provided on an outer side of the sealing member and electrically connecting the first electrode and the second electrode. The conductive column and the first spacer include the same material.

Optical element

A lighting device includes a light emitting module and an optical element including first and second liquid crystal cells. Each of the first and second liquid crystal cells includes first and second transparent electrodes extending in a first direction and third and fourth transparent electrodes extending in a second direction. The light emitting module includes a light source, a light guide plate including an end surface into which light emitted from the light source is incident and a first surface from which the light incident into the end surface is emitted, and a prism sheet disposed opposite to the first surface. The second substrate of the first liquid crystal cell and the first substrate of the second liquid crystal cell are adjacent to each other. The first surface includes a plurality of first grooves extending in a third direction intersecting the first direction and the second direction.

Lighting device

A liquid crystal light control device includes a first liquid crystal cell, a second liquid crystal cell overlapping the first liquid crystal cell, a third liquid crystal cell overlapping the second liquid crystal cell, and a fourth liquid crystal cell overlapping the third liquid crystal cell. Each of the first, second, third, and the fourth liquid crystal cells includes, a first substrate including a first alignment film, a second substrate including an electrode having a strip pattern and a second alignment film, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. An alignment direction of the first alignment film and an alignment direction of the second alignment film are aligned to intersect each other. A longitudinal direction of the strip pattern of the electrode having the strip pattern is arranged to intersect an alignment direction of the second alignment film.

An optical element includes a first liquid crystal cell and a second liquid crystal cell. The first liquid crystal cell and the second liquid crystal cell are stacked. Each of the first liquid crystal cell and the second liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate on which a first transparent electrode and a second transparent electrode are alternately and repeatedly arranged in a first direction, a second substrate on which a third transparent electrode and a fourth transparent electrode are alternately and repeatedly arranged in a second direction intersecting the first direction, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The second substrate of the first liquid crystal cell and the first substrate of the second liquid crystal cell are adjacent to each other.

Optical element and lighting device

An optical element includes at least two liquid crystal cells. The at least two liquid crystal cells include a first substrate on which a first transparent electrode and a second transparent electrode are alternately and repeatedly arranged in a first direction, a second substrate on which a third transparent electrode and a fourth transparent electrode are alternately and repeatedly arranged in a second direction intersecting the first direction, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The second transparent electrode comprises a first bent portion bent in the first direction. The fourth transparent electrode comprises a second bent portion bent in the second direction.

According to one embodiment, a light control device includes a first substrate including first to third electrodes formed in an annular shape and a fourth electrode, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first electrode and the second electrode are arranged in a first direction. The first electrode and the third electrode are arranged in a direction different from the first direction. The fourth electrode is adjacent to the first to third electrodes.

Light control device and illumination device

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first substrate including a light-shielding layer and a conductive line having a first side surface and a second side surface on a side opposite to the first side surface, a second substrate opposed to the first substrate, a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate, and including a polymer and liquid crystal molecules, and a light-emitting element opposed to an end portion of at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the first side surface is closer to the light-emitting element than the second side surface, and the light-shielding layer covers at least the first side surface of the conductive line.

Display device

According to one embodiment, a light control device includes a first liquid crystal cell including a first liquid crystal layer, a second liquid crystal cell including a second liquid crystal layer, and a polarization conversion element. The first liquid crystal layer and the second liquid crystal layer each includes a first region which scatters a first polarized component and transmits a second polarized component and a second region which transmits the first polarized component and scatters the second polarized component. The polarization conversion element overlaps the first region and the second region, converts the first polarized component into the second polarized component, and converts the second polarized component into the first polarized component.

According to one embodiment, a light control device includes a first substrate including a plurality of first control electrodes disposed in an effective area, and a plurality of feed lines disposed in a peripheral area, a second substrate, and a first liquid crystal layer. The first control electrodes are transparent electrodes. Each of the first control electrodes includes, in the effective area, first segments crossing a first direction at a first angle, second segments crossing the first direction at a second angle, and third segments crossing the first direction at a third angle. The first control electrode is electrically connected to the feed line. The first to third angles are different from each other.
