A packaging machine for packaging a product. The machine has a frame for supporting the product and a source of packaging material for supplying packaging material into a position to be engaged by and at least partially surround the product. At least one upper sealing assembly is adapted to move between an actuated position and a non-actuated position. The upper sealing assembly comprises at least one sealing element for forming a seal along adjacent edges of the packaging material. At least one lower sealing assembly is adapted for cooperating engagement with the upper sealing assembly in its actuated position. The at least one upper and lower sealing assemblies are positioned for clamping engagement of the packaging material therebetween for forming the seal when the upper sealing assembly is moved to its actuated position in engagement with the lower sealing assembly.

Packaging machine for bedding products

A label inserter system for inserting and sewing a label or law tag into a border for a mattress or foundation during the formation of the border. The label inserter system generally includes a hopper, a label pre-feeder and a label transfer clamp subassembly that engages and moves the label from the hopper and inserts the label between, on top or on the bottom of the cut edges of the border prior to sewing the cut edges to finish the border, with the label being sewn therein.

Label/tag inserter system

A system for forming and attaching pillowtop attachment gussets and borders to panels, with the gusset or border material being fed from a supply into a sewing station. The gusset or border material is passed through a folder assembly that directs the gusset or border material into a sewing zone where it is attached to the panel. A ruffler mechanism engages and forms a series of ruffles in the gusset or border material as it is sewn about the corners of the panel.

System and method of finishing ruffled gussets/borders

A computer integrated communication system for restaurants that includes a central server and a series of table units and staff units. The table and staff units each include a display and wireless communication device that enables customer request information and other communications to be sent from the table unit to the staff units either directly or by first being passed through the central server unit. The central server further can monitor the communications and direct the request to another staff member or management for action in the event of delays or other problems with the customer's request.

Computer integrated communication system for restaurants

A torch and mount assembly wherein the torch, which has a plurality of gas receiving nipples is carried in a housing through which it extends. The housing has a plurality of walls forming a substantially air tight enclosure. In at least one wall of the housing are one or more leakproof fittings which are connected to similar leakproof fittings for the nipples by means of preferably flexible gas conduits within the housing. In the system, gaseous mixtures are applied from a source or sources to the fittings in the housing wall remote from the high temperatures of the torch, while the conduits within the housing are protected from mechanical and thermal stresses. An inert gas from a suitable source is introduced under pressure into the interior of the housing to reduce leakage from the torch into the housing. The atmosphere within the housing is heated, and the constituents of the housing atmosphere are monitored to aid in detecting leakage.

Housing for an optical fiber preform torch

A torch and mounting system therefor has a cylindrical main glass tube surrounded by a tough and rigid tube. The metallic tube is threaded at each end for receiving compression nuts, each having a ferrule such as an O-ring or a tapered ring inside. Each ferrule is a slip fit over the main glass tube and has an angled surface that butts against the end of the metallic tube. When the nuts are tightened, the sloped surfaces of the ferrules force the ferrules against the main glass tube, thereby fixing it in place within the metal tube. The metal tube in turn is clamped by a mounting clamp which is, in turn, mounted to an adjustment stage for optimum positioning of the torch. A support rail has adjustably mounted thereon one or more strain relieving clamps for holding gas or vapor delivery tubes in place to insure proper delivery of gases and vapors to the torch.

Torch mount for high deposition glass torches

A proportional flow control valve having at least one pinch jaw that is movable between open and closed positions for engaging a fluid flow line passing through the valve. The valve includes a valve actuator generally formed from a shape memory alloy that engages and moves at least one movable pinch jaw. As an electrical current is applied to the shape memory alloy, the shape memory alloy exerts a moving force on the pinch jaw so as to move the pinch jaw into or out of engagement with a flow tube for controlling the opening and closing of the valve.

Proportional flow control valve

A machine for automatically producing a mattress border with handles sewn to the border material. Border material is pre-fed from a selected spool, screened for splice avoidance and measured. Handle material is fed from a selected spool mounted in a multiple handle material spool magazine mounted on rails, fed into a handle folding assembly, and cut to length. Ends of the handle material are folded under by the handle folding assembly and the handle then transferred in a folded condition from the handle folding assembly to a correct position on the border material. A double frame handle press holds each folded end of the handle material in place as each end is maneuvered under a sewing head needle to apply a stitch pattern to secure the folded ends to the border material. The double frame handle press is translated separately from the carriage assembly which travels in the sew pattern, to position the other end of the handle under the sewing needle.

Automated apparatus for manufacture of mattress borders with sewn handles

A waistband attachment system (10) for sewing an elastic waistband into the waist portion of a garment is disclosed. The waistband attachment system includes a sewing head assembly (16), a puller roller assembly (24), a waistband expansion assembly (44), a bottom edge guide assembly (64), a folder wire (102), a top edge guide assembly (128), and a folder assembly (148) about which the elastic waistband and the unfolded waist edge of the garment are passed, and a stacking assembly (400). The unfinished waist edge of the garment is folded about the elastic waistband by the folder wire and finish folded by the combination of folder tongue/finish folder so that a top ply of the waist portion of the garment overlies an opposed bottom ply to enclose the elastic waistband therein. The bottom edge and top edge guide assemblies, respectively, are constructed and arranged to progressively move the waist edge of the garment into a knife (170) of the sewing head assembly for trimming the excess portion of the waist edge along the folded and hemmed waistband as it is sewn into the garment. Thereafter, the stacking assembly removes each garment for stacking as part of a garment bundle.

Waistband attachment system

A sewing system (10) includes a tension adjustment spindle assembly (30) constructed and arranged to move a spindle (26) laterally toward and away from a sewing head (16) of the sewing machine to adjust the tension in the looped end of a work piece (28). A tension roller (70) engages a bottom run (29) of the work piece (28), so that when proper tension is applied to the work piece at the beginning of the cycle of operation by the lateral shifting of the tension adjustment spindle assembly (30), a proximity switch (88) detects the upward movement of a tension arm (72) and initiates the operation of the sewing system. As the sewing system operates and the work piece tends to become longer because of the penetration of the needles and the insertion of stitches between the yarns of the work piece, and temporary stretching associated with the handling of the work piece, the tension roller (70) moves downwardly into the lower run of the work piece to constantly apply a predetermined downward tension force against the bottom run of the work piece to maintain a constant tension force on the work piece.

Spindle tension system for sewing station

A weft straightener assembly for an automated weft straightener system. The weft straightener system includes proximity sensors, a power roller, and an idler roller rotating on a rotation axis. A biased woven textile planar material is fed to the weft straightener assembly where the assembly stretches the woven planar textile material in a predetermined direction to eliminate or substantially reduce any bias present in the woven planar material.

Method and apparatus for weft correction

A textile fold control system (40) includes a hem engager (46) mounted to a downstream side of a sewing machine (42), and a roller (76) for engaging and moving a hem formed in a textile work piece slightly downward so as to bend the hem about a trailing edge (79) of a work surface (54) of the sewing machine, thereby applying increased frictional contact between an edge portion (88) of the work piece and the work surface, and additional surface-to-surface contact between the edge portion and an adjacent body portion (90) of the hem in order to avoid the curling or unfolding of the hem during a pre-feed portion of the sewing cycle of the sewing machine.

Textile fold control system with hem engager

A hemming and seaming machine (5) having a hemming conveyor (16) on which a workpiece is moved along a path of travel toward and through a hemming station which sews a hem in the workpiece is disclosed. The hemmed workpiece is then moved downstream to a folding station (25) where a spaced series of first air jets (61) selectively emit streams of air between a folding plate (26) and clamping plate (55) to create a vacuum therebetween to draw the leading edge of the workpiece off of the hemming conveyor and between the folding plate and the clamping plate. The leading edge of the workpiece is held between the clamping and folding plates while the workpiece continues to move along the path of travel. After a predetermined period of time has elapsed from the detection of the leading edge of the workpiece, or in response to the detection of the trailing edge of the workpiece, the leading edge of the workpiece is released from between the folding and clamping plates. The workpiece is then moved to a downstream seamer station (175), which sews a seam in the workpiece, and then to a downstream workpiece stacking station (177).
