An erosion resistant material has a continuous portion and discontinuous portions. The continuous portion has a continuous structure. The discontinuous portions are arranged inside the continuous portion to have a discontinuous structure. The discontinuous portions are formed of particles having an average particle diameter of 1 &#x3bc;m or less. Further, the discontinuous portions are formed of a material having a surface hardness and a Young's modulus higher than those of the continuous portion.

Erosion resistant material and turbine blade

A steam turbineaccording to an embodiment includes: a casinghaving a turbine rotor; a diaphragm outer ringarranged at an inner side of the casing, and having a hollow partinside thereof; a diaphragm inner ringarranged at an inner side of the diaphragm outer ring; and a stationary bladejoined to the diaphragm outer ringby welding and supported between the diaphragm outer ringand the diaphragm inner ring. A non-joint partexisting at a part of a joint partbetween the diaphragm outer ringand the stationary blade, and in which an end part at an outer diameter side of the stationary bladeis not welded to the diaphragm outer ring; and a suction partcollecting waterdroplet or a water film from the non-joint partare included.
