Surface treating methods of a titanium part may include the steps of determining an effective thickness of a hard oxide film to be formed on a surface of the titanium part, determining an effective surface roughness of the hard oxide film, and oxidation treating the surface of the titanium part under a desired treating temperature and a desired treating time such that both of the determined effective thickness and effective surface roughness are satisfied.

Surface treating methods of titanium parts

The present invention teaches a method for surface treating an engine valve made from titanium or titanium alloy in order to form a hardened coating having a high level of adhesion to the surface of the engine valve, and also having improved abrasion and impact resistances. The method includes a hardening treatment process for forming a hardened layer on the surface of the engine valve by providing oxygen dissolved into the surface of the engine valve as a solid solution; and a coating treatment process applied after the hardening treatment process. The coating treatment process forms a coating on the surface of the engine valve by physical vapor deposition.

Methods for surface treating engine valves and engine valves treated thereby

A method is provided for diffusion bonding a first member () and a second member () to each other. According to this method, a first joint portion () of the first member and a second joint portion () of the second member are fitted to each other with a predetermined interference. Thereafter, the first and second members are heated under a condition substantially without oxygen, so that the first and second joint portions are diffusion bonded to each other.
