A composite holding device, includes a casing for accommodating a plurality of holders for holding media to serve either different or similar purposes, a supporting section for supporting the holders to be movable in an axial direction in the casing, a feed mechanism, provided in the casing, for selectively advancing one of the plurality of holders, and a manipulating mechanism for operating the feed mechanism, to project the tip of one of the plurality of holders out of a fore end opening at the tip of the casing and make usable the tip of one of the plurality of holders. A supported section of each holder supported by the supporting section is rotatably supported in relation to the supporting section.

A double-chuck mechanical pencil has an outer tube, a tip fitting provided in the front of the outer tube, a tip chuck located at the tip of the tip fitting for holding a writing substance (e.g., a lead) and urged rearward in the axial directed, and a delivery chuck for delivering the lead. The present invention provides writing instruments having a mechanism for extending and retracting a writing tip and advancing a lead by rotational operation. The writing instrument is comprised of a front tubular member (1); a front inner tubular member (2) disposed within the front tubular member (1); a refill (3) inserted into the front inner tubular member (2); and a driver (10) mounted in the front tubular member (1) and the front inner tubular member (2). The driver (10) is allowed to rotate but not be axial displaced relative to the front tubular member (1) and the front inner tubular member (2). A rear tubular member (5) is detachably connected to the driver (10) so as not to allow rotation relative to the driver (10). A rear inner tubular member (4) is inserted in the driver (10). The rear inner tubular member (4) and the driver (10) interengage with each other by engagement between at least one axial groove (11) and corresponding projections (12). The writing instrument further comprises an inclined path (7) provided on one of either front inner tubular member (2) or the rear inner tubular member (4). The inclined path (7) extends obliquely relative to the axial line of the writing instrument from a beginning end (7A) and a terminal end (7B). A projection (8) provided on the other of either the front inner tubular member (2) or the rear inner tubular member (4), engages the inclined path (7).

The present invention provides writing instruments having a mechanism for extending and retracting a writing tip and advancing a lead by rotational operation. The writing instrument is comprised of a front tubular member (1); a front inner tubular member (2) disposed within the front tubular member (1); a refill (3) inserted into the front inner tubular member (2); and a driver (10) mounted in the front tubular member (1) and the front inner tubular member (2). The driver (10 ) is allowed to rotate but not be axial displaced relative to the front tubular member (1) and the front inner tubular member (2). A rear tubular member (5) is detachably connected to the driver (10) so as not to allow rotation relative to the driver (10). A rear inner tubular member (4) is inserted in the driver (10). The rear inner tubular member (4) and the driver (10) interengage with each other by engagement between at least one axial groove (11) and corresponding projections (12). The writing instrument further comprises an inclined path (7) provided on one of either front inner tubular member (2) or the rear inner tubular member (4). The inclined path (7) extends obliquely relative to the axial line of the writing instrument from a beginning end (7A) and a terminal end (7B). A projection (8) provided on the other of either the front inner tubular member (2) or the rear inner tubular member (4), engages the inclined path (7).

A container for extending a stick-shaped material comprises a tubular body and a chuck formed on the tubular body inserted into a chuck ring. The tubular body and the chuck ring are provided with first and second deflectable projecting parts respectively, while a head member is provided with first and second retaining holes the first deflectable projections of the tubular body engage the first retaining holes, while the second deflectable projecting parts of the chuck ring engage the second retaining holes of the head member. A resilient elastic body is mounted between the end of the head member and an elastic body bearing formed on the tubular body. A stick-shaped material such as a stick-shaped eraser is held in the head member and the chuck. The tubular member, the chuck ring, the stick-shaped material and the elastic body are assembled as a unit with the head member. Therefore, the number of parts is reduced and assembly and disassembly becomes relatively easy.

In a writing utensil according to the present invention, when a rearward outer cylinder is rotated in either direction, a cam engaging projection, which is integral with the rearward outer cylinder, slides pressingly on either of the respective cam surfaces of first and second sliders. This causes one of the first and second sliders to advance, which in turn causes a first of the first and second refills to project forwardly while the other remains retracted. Similarly, when the rearward outer cylinder is rotated in the opposite direction, the cam engaging projection slides pressingly on the other of the cam surfaces of the first and second sliders. This causes advancement of the other of the sliders, and in turn causes the second of the first and second refills to be projected while the first remains retracted. The construction allows these operations to be smoothly, stably and positively performed.

A thrust-action mechanical pencil having a lead-forwarding mechanism and an outer sleeve, the lead-forwarding mechanism being inserted from the rear end of the outer sleeve. An elastic member to prevent looseness is inserted between a chuck ring sleeve, and an inner ring provided on the inside of the outer sleeve to prevent forward movement. A tubular retaining sleeve having a full length slit is installed between a mouth piece and a stepped portion of the lead forewarding mechanism. A retaining portion on the forward end of the retaining sleeve is set between the mouth piece and the forward end of the outer sleeve to retain the lead-forwarding mechanism in the pencil.

This invention relates to a container for feeding a bar shaped article such as an erasing gum, a pencil lead, a crayon, a pastel, or an eyebrow stick, especially for advancing or retracting the bar shaped article. A bar shaped article (8) is inserted into an inner sleeve (2) from the rear end with the outer sleeve (1) being held by the hand, then the rear end of the inner sleeve (2) is pressed. Inner sleeve (2) moves forward and rearward against the resilient force of an elastic biasing member (3). A chuck (4) at the end of the inner sleeve (2) opens and closes repeatedly and the end of the bar shaped article (8) is fed out and can be used. When the chuck (4) holds the bar shaped article (8) in an unused state a chuck open means opens the chuck 4 slightly and loosens the securing force preventing encroachment of the chuck (4) into the article (8) allowing the chuck (4) to easily separate from the article (8) when the article (8) is fed out. Therefore feeding of the article (8) is performed accurately and smoothly.
