An exhaust gas purifying system includes an exhaust gas purifying catalyst having a nitrogen oxide absorbing material which is installed in an exhaust line of an engine and performs split fuel injection to inject fuel directly into each combustion chamber partly during a suction stroke and partly during a compression stroke to provide and supply an increased amount of carbon monoxide to the nitrogen oxide absorbing material so as thereby to desorb sulfur oxides from the nitrogen oxide absorbing material.

Exhaust gas purifying system for engine

Exhaust gas temperature is raised after a cold engine start so as to rapidly activate a catalyst in an exhaust line by retarding an ignition timing at which an air-fuel mixture is fired in the engine to a point after top-dead-center during a certain time interval and promoting combustion of the air-fuel mixture, thereby accelerating the catalyst to attain its effective activation temperature after the cold engine start as quickly as possibly.

Method of and system for purifying exhaust gas for engines

An exhaust gas purifying system for an automobile engine is equipped with a metal zeolite catalytic converter for deoxidizing and purifying nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas. The system controls and compulsorily changes the air-fuel ratio of the fuel mixture injected into the automobile engine based on a target air-fuel ratio only when the temperature of the exhaust gas, before entering the catalyst, is greater than a specific temperature.

Exhaust gas purifying system

An intake system utilizing an air-fuel control which is changed in accordance with the coolant temperature. When the coolant temperature is lower than the first coolant temperature, an open loop control is carried out in accordance with the coolant temperature so that a fluctuation of the air-fuel ratio can be restricted so as to obtain a stability. An air-fuel feedback control is carried out between the first and second coolant temperatures wherein the air-fuel ratio is maintained at the stoichiometric value so that an increase of NO.sub.X emitted from the engine can be suppressed. In the region in which the coolant temperature exceeds the second temperature, an air-fuel feedback control is carried out in the lean mixture side of the stoichiometric value in accordance with the coolant temperature to thereby improve the emission performance of the engine.

An air-fuel ratio control system for an engine in which a fuel injection amount is calculated according to the engine operating conditions and is corrected according to the output of an air-fuel ratio sensor, comprises a base fuel injection amount calculating section for calculating a base fuel injection amount corresponding to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio on the basis of the intake air amount, a target air-fuel ratio calculating section for calculating a target air-fuel ratio according to the engine operating condition, a reference value calculating section for calculating a reference value which represents the target air-fuel ratio and is submitted to comparison with the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor, a feedback correction coefficient calculating section for calculating a feedback coefficient according to the deviation of the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor from the reference value, and a final fuel injection amount calculating section which corrects the base fuel-injection amount on the basis of the ratio of the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio to the target air-fuel ratio and the feedback coefficient to obtain a final fuel injection amount.

Air-fuel ratio control system for engine

A throttle valve control system comprises an accelerator position sensor for detecting the amount of operation of the accelerator, a throttle valve opening degree determining circuit which receives the output of the accelerator position sensor and determines the opening degree of the throttle valve, and a throttle valve driving device which drives the throttle valve to the position corresponding to the opening degree determined by the throttle valve opening degree determining circuit. The throttle valve opening degree determining circuit is arranged to determine the opening degree of the throttle valve with respect to the amount of operation of the accelerator so that the change in the opening degree of the throttle valve for a given change in the amount of operation of the accelerator is relatively small when the amount of operation of the accelerator is in an intermediate range and is relatively large when the amount of operation of the accelerator is above or below the intermediate range.

Throttle valve control system for internal combustion engine

An automobile engine having a device for increasing the inkage air in idle operation when a load is applied to the engine from equipments associate with the engine. An alternator driven by the engine has a voltage regulator which controls the alternator output in response to a load condition on the alternator by controlling the field current. A control unit is provided to restrict an increase in the field current when an electric load is turned on for a time period required for having the engine output increased.

An air-to-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine comprises means for performing a feedback control for keeping a fuel mixture to have the theoretical air-to-fuel ratio or approximations thereof in response to the output of an air-to-fuel ratio sensor, means for conducting the learning to compute a supplemental feedback quantity of fuel used for revising the quantity of fuel by which the fuel actually supplied is determined in at least one of partitions of the operating condition of the engine under the feedback control, means for memorizing the supplemental feedback quantity of fuel in at least one of memorizing areas partitioned in accordance with the partitions of the operating condition of the engine as a resultant of the learning, means for renewing the resultant of the learning in each of the remaining memorizing areas on the strength of the resultant of the learning newly memorized in at least one of memorizing areas, and means for supplying the fuel of the quantity computed with the renewed resultant of the learning in each memorizing area so as to produce the fuel mixture having a desired air-to-fuel ratio different from the theoretical air-to-fuel ratio and approximations thereof through an open-loop control under the situations where the operation of the engine meets predetermined conditions.

Air-to-fuel ratio control systems for internal combustion engines

Opening degree of the throttle valve of an engine is detected and compared with a plurality of throttle opening degree reference values which are preset to be minuter in the lower region of the throttle opening degree. Each time the actual throttle opening degree exceeds one of the reference values, an extra fuel injection pulse is outputted in addition to regular injection pulses to increase the amount of fuel to be supplied to the engine.

Fuel injection system for an engine

A fuel injection valve is provided upstream of a branch-off part of a branched off intake passage, the downstream ends of the branched off passages being connected to a plurality of cylinders of an engine. The fuel injection timing of the injection valve is controlled by a pulse controller. The pulse controller operates to control the pulse timing basically according to the intake air flow and the crank angle of the crank shaft of the engine, and further corrects the timing according to the air fuel ratio difference between cylinders whose intake strokes are adjacent to each other. The correction rate of the timing may be changed according to the degree of the engine load and/or the engine temperature. By the correction of the timing, the air fuel mixture in rich cylinders is partly inhaled into lean cylinders so that the air fuel ratios of the cylinders may be equalized.

An engine throttle valve operating device comprising a throttle valve operating foot pedal position detector for detecting the position of the foot pedal and producing a foot pedal position signal corresponding to the position of the foot pedal, a rapid acceleration detector connected with the foot pedal position detection for receiving the foot pedal position signal therefrom and producing a rate signal corresponding to a rate of change per unit time of the position of the foot pedal, a throttle valve actuator for actuating the engine throttle valve, a throttle valve driving signal generating circuit responsive to the foot pedal position signal and the rate signal to produce a first drive signal for operating the actuator in accordance with the foot pedal position signal when the rate of change per unit time of the position of the foot pedal is smaller than a predetermined value and a second drive signal for operating the actuator by a greater extent than under the first drive signal when the rate of change per unit time of the position of the operating member is greater than the predetermined value.

Electrically operated engine throttle valve actuating device

For use in an automobile multi-cylinder engine having exhaust ports leading from engine cylinders and through which exhaust gases are emitted, an exhaust gas purifying apparatus comprising a reducing catalyst unit and an oxidizing catalyst unit disposed in a main exhaust manifold communicated through exhaust ducts to a first group of the exhaust ports and, on the other hand, to the atmosphere, an auxiliary exhaust manifold communicated to a second group of the exhaust port and, on the other hand, to a portion of the main exhaust manifold at a position intermediately between the reducing and oxidizing catalyst units, a secondary air supply passage extending from a source of secondary air to the auxiliary exhaust manifold, and an additional secondary air supply passage extending from the secondary air source to any one of the collecting ducts communicated to the exhaust ports of the first group. The apparatus further comprises means for warming the exhaust gases emitted from the exhaust port of the second group.

Dual-catalyst exhaust gas purifying apparatus for multi-cylinder engine

An exhaust gas purifying apparatus, for use in an automobile multi-cylinder engine of the type which has exhaust port ducts leading from engine cylinders and through which exhaust gases are emitted subsequent to combustion of an air-fuel mixture, the exhaust gas purifying apparatus having a reducing catalyst unit and an oxidizing catalyst unit disposed in a main exhaust manifold which is corrected on one side, to a first group of the exhaust port ducts and, on the other side to the atmosphere, an auxiliary exhaust manifold is connected, on one side to a second group of the exhaust port ducts and on the other side to a portion of the main exhaust manifold which is downstream from the reducing catalyst unit and upstream of the oxidizing catalyst unit. A pressure operated valve is disposed on a secondary air supply passage for introducing secondary air into the auxiliary exhaust manifold by the utilization of a pulsating flow of the exhaust gases through the auxiliary exhaust manifold, and an exhaust gas recirculating system extending between the main exhaust manifold to an intake system of the engine.

Exhaust gas purifying apparatus for automobile multi-cylinder engine

An exhuast gas purifying apparatus for use in an automobile multi-cylinder engine of the type which has exhaust ports communicating with engine cylinders and through which exhaust gases are emitted subsequent to combustion of an air-fuel mixture. The exhaust gas purifying apparatus comprising a reducing catalyst unit and a three-way catalyst unit which are disposed in a main exhaust manifold which is connected at one end to a first group of the exhaust ports and at the other end to the atmosphere, and an auxiliary exhaust manifold connected at one end to a second group of the exhaust ports and at the other end to a portion of the main exhaust manifold at a location downstream of the reducing catalyst unit and upstream from the three-way catalyst unit. A pressure operated valve is disposed in a secondary air supply passage for introducing a secondary air into the auxiliary exhaust manifold by the utilization of the pulsating flow of the exhaust gases through the auxiliary exhaust manifold. This secondary air supply passage also has a control valve for regulating the flow of the secondary air therethrough during the opening of the pressure operated valve.

The engine has a duct connecting the gases in the exhaust gas crossover passage to the intake manifold and providing with a flow control valve for controlling the flow in the duct in such that said valve is moved to open by signals from both of a clutch-actuation detection device and a throttle valve-opening detection device and is kept opening by signal from a timer to be actuated by said two devices.
