A physical quantity detector, such as a pressure sensor and a load sensor, includes a cylindrical part of which one end is closed with a strain generating part and a sensor part formed on the strain generating part. The cylindrical part is produced by melting an alloying material having a composition capable of yielding an amorphous alloy, injecting the resultant molten alloy into a metal mold, and cooling the molten alloy in the metal mold to confer amorphousness on the alloy. The metal mold includes a split mold having at least two split parts for forming a cavity and an insert pin to be inserted into the cavity so as to define the inner configuration of the cylindrical part, or further an insert core to be inserted into the mold so as to form the surface of the cavity corresponding to the surface of the strain generating part.

Method for manufacture of a physical quantity detector

In a conversion sleeve comprising a large diameter part, a small diameter part, and a tapered diameter part interconnecting said two parts, a ferrule insertion stop part is formed on an inner circumferential surface of the tapered diameter part and/or inner circumferential surfaces of the large diameter part and the small diameter part adjacent to the tapered diameter part. An optical adapter comprises a split sleeve having a slit formed therein throughout the entire length in the longitudinal direction thereof, particularly a conversion sleeve, and an adapter housing having a sleeve retaining part in which the sleeve is inserted and retained. The sleeve retaining part is provided with an engagement part comprising a recessed portion or/and a projected portion. The split sleeve is provided with a counter engagement part comprising a projected portion or/and a recessed portion which engages with the recessed portion or/and the projected portion of the engagement part.

Conversion sleeve and optical adapter

An intake air control valve of the invention has a valve body and a valve holder, and is attached to a communication hole on a partition wall separating a surge tank chamber within a surge tank of a multiple cylinder internal combustion engine by fitting and inserting a valve holder. A valve hole is formed within the valve holder, and a butterfly type valve body is attached via a valve shaft so as to freely open and close a valve hole. A seal member is fitted to a groove provided in a peripheral edge portion of the valve holder. The seal member is formed by a fitting and attaching portion fitted and attached to an inner side of the groove of the valve holder and a leading end seal portion brought into contact with an inner peripheral portion of the communication hole in the partition wall. Recess portions open to an inner side of the groove is provided in the fitting and attaching portion in parallel in a longitudinal direction so as to be sectioned by a plurality of ribs. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the seal member fitted to a peripheral edge portion of the valve holder from falling away and it is possible to secure a good sealing property at a time of full closing.

Intake air control valve

An optical connector comprises a mount having an accommodating portion and an optical connector ferrule. The mount and the outer surface of the optical connector ferrule to be brought into contact therewith are made of the same kind of material, thereby securing the good weldability therebetween. In one embodiment, both the mount and the ferrule are made of an amorphous alloy. In another embodiment, the mount is made of a metal, for example stainless steel, and the ferrule comprises a body made of an amorphous alloy and a surface part covering the outer surface of the body is made of the same kind of material as the mount, i.e. a metal such as stainless steel.

Optical connector and optical connector ferrule to be used therein

A method for the production of a cast article having a small hole comprises the steps of setting a linear core member in a cavity of a metal mold, injecting a molten metal into the cavity, and drawing out the core member from the resultant-cast product to form a small hole. A linear core member having a surface film formed by surface coating or by subjecting to a surface treatment is used so that the surface film is partly or as a whole peeled off the linear core member upon drawing it from the cast product, thereby enabling the core member to be drawn from the inside of the cast product. Alternatively, the linear core member is so constructed as to elastically deform in the drawing direction upon drawing it from the cast product to have a diameter smaller than the original diameter.

Method and apparatus for production of cast article having small hole

An optical connector ferrule has an optical fiber incorporated therein as an integral part thereof, wherein the optical fiber is integrally fixed in the ferrule directly or through the medium of the metal tube embedded in the ferrule. This ferrule of the optical fiber built-in type can be produced by inserting an optical fiber or a metal tube having an optical fiber fitted therein into a mold provided with a molding cavity which defines the outer shape of an optical connector ferrule, injecting a fluid material kept at an elevated temperature into the cavity of the mold, and solidifying the cast material by cooling. The optical fiber or both the optical fiber and the metal tube are strongly fixed in the ferrule integrally by the thermal shrinkage or coagulation shrinkage of the ferrule during the production thereof.

A method for the production of a cast article having a small hole comprises the steps of setting a linear core member in a cavity of a metal mold, injecting a molten metal into the cavity, and drawing out the core member from the resultant cast product to form a small hole. A linear core member having a surface film formed by surface coating or by subjecting to a surface treatment is used so that the surface film is partly or as a whole peeled off the linear core member upon drawing it from the cast product, thereby enabling the core member to be drawn from the inside of the cast product. Alternatively, the linear core member is so constructed as to elastically deform in the drawing direction upon drawing it from the cast product to have a diameter smaller than the original diameter.

A catalyst for methanol synthesis and reforming which is constituted of copper, zinc, and aluminum oxides and has a structure comprising copper or copper oxide particles covered with a film of aluminum oxide and zinc oxide. The copper or copper oxide particles preferably have a particle size of 1 to 100 nm. The film of aluminum oxide and zinc oxide preferably has a thickness of 0.1 to 100 nm. The proportions of the copper, zinc, and aluminum elements are 68.0 to 86.0% by weight, 4.5 to 21.0% by weight, and 2.0 to 20.0% by weight, respectively. The foregoing highly active catalyst comprising copper, zinc, and aluminum oxides can be obtained not by a costly special technique but by the coprecipitation method, which is the most common process for catalyst production, without using any additive element.

Palladium has a catalyst power, and the ultrafine particles have a large specific surface area, because they have a particle size d.ltoreq.200 nm. Such ultrafine particles have a high catalytic activity in a methanol decomposing reaction and also have a good retention of catalytic activity.

Ultrafine amorphous metal particles which combine the properties of ultrafine particles with those of an amorphous alloy and a method for the production thereof are disclosed. The ultrafine amorphous metal particles are produced by a method which comprises discharging a plasma arc against a raw metal capable of forming a carbide in a reaction gas using an inert gas as a main component thereof and containing a hydrocarbon gas, and allowing the metal which has been consequently vaporized to contact the reaction gas which has been consequently converted into a plasma, thereby inducing formation of a solid solution of carbon atoms in the vaporized metal and quenching the solid solution in the reaction gas to confer an amorphous structure thereon. As the raw metal, at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Fe, Mo, Nb, Ta, Ti, Zr, Al, Si, and Cr is preferably used. By this method are obtained ultrafine amorphous metal particles which comprise the metal mentioned above, possess at least 50% by volume of an amorphous phase, and have particle diameters of not more than 500 nm.

Ultrafine whiskery or columnar ceramic particles, a method for producing the ultrafine particles, and a sintered article obtained by sintering the ultrafine ceramic particles are disclosed. The ultrafine ceramic particles are produced by thermally melting a matrix alloy of a composition of Al--M.sup.1, wherein M.sup.1 stands for at least one metallic element selected from the group consisting of Cr, Co, and Fe, or Al--M.sup.1 --M.sup.2, wherein M.sup.2 stands for at least one metallic element selected from the group consisting of Au, Cu, Dy, Er, Ga, Ge, Gd, Hf, Ho, Lu, Mn, Mo, Nb, Nd, Ni, Pr, Re, Sb, Sc, Si, Sn, Ta, Tb, Ti, Tm, V, W, Y, Zn, or Zr, in a nitriding atmosphere containing nitrogen and causing the vaporized raw material to react with the nitrogen in the atmosphere. By this method, ultrafine composite particles or a mixture comprising ultrafine whiskery or columnar aluminum nitride particles and ultrafine particles of the metal, the intermetallic compound of the metal with aluminum, and the nitride ceramic of the metal are produced. A deformed ultra fine grain is comprised of a spherical body and a tail-like projection projecting from the surface of the spherical body. The tail-like projection exhibits a separating effect on the adjacent deformed ultra fine grains and therefore, aggregation of the ultra fine grains is avoided. Bulk quantities of the deformed ultra fine grains are produced by evaporating a metal by a plasma arc in a controlled atmosphere having a gas that combines with the material of the spherical body to form the tail-like projection.

Ultrafine particles of aluminum nitride having a morphologically anisotropic structure of columns, plates, or whiskers such that the ratio of thickness or width to length or the ratio of thickness to width or length of particle is not less than 1 are produced by thermally melting a binary alloy of metallic aluminum and a rare earth element in a nitriding atmosphere containing nitrogen. By this method are produced composite ultrafine particles which substantially comprise ultrafine particles of aluminum nitride having the morphologically anisotropic structure and ultrafine particles of the rare earth nitride which functions as a sintering auxiliary therefor. The composite ultrafine particles or an aggregate thereof are usable as a raw material for the production of a sintered article, a reinforcing material for various metal-based composite materials, a blast powder, and the like.

Composite ultrafine particles of aluminum nitride and rare earth

A structural member is produced using starting powder consisting of composite particulates each containing AlN grain within its surface covered by an Al layer of a single crystal structure, and Al alloy particulates of a single crystal structure, and then by sintering the Al layers of the composite particulates with the Al alloy particulates. The Al layers and the Al alloy particulates of the single crystal structure have no dislocation fault, crystal grain boundary. etc., produced therein, and for this reason, they have a low chemical activity. Therefore, the Al layers and the like have a characteristic that they are extremely difficult to oxidize. This ensures that the Al layers and the Al alloy particulates can be reliably sintered to achieve the densification of the resulting structural member.
