An autofocus system includes: an image pickup unit that takes a subject image formed by an optical system; a target subject detection unit that detects a target subject, which is previously registered as an autofocus target, in a photographing image taken by the image pickup unit; a lens-to-subject distance calculation unit that calculates a lens-to-subject distance to the target subject based on information on a photographing angle of view depending on a focal length of the optical system, a size of the target subject in the photographing image, and a size of the target subject in real space; and a rough AF unit that controls a focus of the optical system so as to bring into focus the subject which is located at the lens-to-subject distance calculated by the lens-to-subject distance calculation unit.

In a focus demand connected to a lens unit of a television camera, a joystick for designating the direction of movement of an AF area is disposed. A direction change switch for reversing the direction of movement of the AF area with respect to the direction of operation of the joystick is also provided. The focus demand is reversed in vertical and horizontal directions between the case of being mounted to be operated by the right hand and the case of being mounted to be operated by the left hand.

Automatic focusing system focus area control

Disclosed is an auto focus device that automatically and easily sets an AF frame to a focus range desired by a cameraman in an AF system. An auto focus device includes: a focusing unit that performs focusing on an imaging screen of a camera; a best focus range detecting unit that detects a best focus range from the imaging screen showing the focus result of the focusing unit; and an AF frame automatic setting unit that automatically sets the position of an AF frame indicating the range of an AF area, which is a target range focused by auto focus in the imaging screen, in the detected best focus range.

Auto focus system that controls focusing speeds and movements based on image conditions

To provide an automatic focusing system which has an AF pickup device dedicated to an AF operation and which can perform the AF operation with high following ability to a moving subject. At the time of performing an AF control operation, a CPU of a lens unit sets a focusing state of a photographing optical system to an in-focus state by controlling a focus lens group FL of the photographing optical system so that an estimated focus value representing the magnitude of a contrast of a subject image is the maximum. The CPU adjusts an electronic shutter speed of the AF pickup device based on a brightness level of an image signal acquired by the AF pickup device and enhances the frame rate of the AF pickup device as high as possible.

Automatic focusing system

The present invention provides an autofocus system comprising: a lens device interchangeably attached to a camera and provided with an autofocus device which controls focus so that a subject within a predetermined AF area range within the image-taking range of the camera is focused; a controller which is connected to the lens device as an accessory device and which gives AF area information specifying the AF area range to the autofocus device, the autofocus system; an AF area information acquisition device which acquires the AF area information given to the autofocus device from the controller; and an AF area display device which visibly displays the AF area range in a picture taken by the camera based on the AF area information acquired by the AF area information acquisition device.

The present invention provides an AF-area display apparatus integrated in a lens unit that is interchangeably mounted on a camera and has an automatic focusing device for controlling focusing in such a way that the camera is focused on a photographic subject within an AF area in an imaging area of the camera, or connected as an auxiliary device to the lens unit, the AF-area display apparatus comprising: an AF-area obtaining device that obtains the AF area currently set in the automatic focusing device; a video signal generating device that generates a video signal for displaying the AF area obtained through the AF-area obtaining device; and a video signal outputting device that outputs the video signal generated by the video signal generating device.
