The titanium oxide-organic polymer composite material for artificial bone obtained by forming titania gel on the surface of said base material by titania solution treatment to dip into a solution of 0&#xb0; C. to 50&#xb0; C. temperature for from several seconds to 1 week obtained by adding a solution consisting of acidic alcohol and water into alcohol solution of titaniumtetraalcoxide to a base material composed of a polymer compound selected from a group consisting of polyolefin, polyester and nylon, and modifying to a titanium oxide membrane which forms apatite having similar Ca/P atom ratio to an apatite of mammalian's bone in supersaturated aqueous solution to apatite or from a body fluid of mammalian by dipping said base material on the surface of which titania gel is formed into hot water of. 50&#xb0; C. to 95&#xb0; C. or solution of room temperature to 95&#xb0; C. to which acid is added.

Titanium oxide-organic polymer conjunction suitable for artificial bone

An artificial bone which is excellent in the ability to form bone in a living body, reliably thereof, and has high mechanical strength. The process comprises the steps of: mixing granules, composed of a titanium or a titanium alloy powder and an organic binder, with a particulate pore-forming material, pressure-molding the mixture to obtain a molded body, firing the molded body at 1200&#xb0; C. to obtain a porous body, bringing the porous body into contact with an aqueous alkali solution, subsequently with water of 35&#xb0; C. or higher for a period longer than that of contacting with the aqueous alkali solution and then heating the porous body at 100 to 650&#xb0; C., preferably 200 to 600&#xb0; C.

Artificial bone and method for producing the same

A novel polymeric material for artificial bones, comprising a solid or gel-form base containing, as the main component, either a polysaccharide having carboxyl groups or their derivatives, or a polysaccharide having carboxyl groups or their derivatives, introduced into it, which also has calcium ions bonded thereto, and shows excellent ability to form apatite.

Polymeric material for artificial bone

A bone substitute, which provides both the fracture toughness of titanium or titanium alloys and the bioactivity of apatite, wherein titanium or titanium alloys and apatite are tightly adhered, is produced by soaking a substrate of titanium or titanium alloy in an alkaline solution to form a layer comprising amorphous alkali titanate, followed by the heating of the said substrate up to at most the titanium or titanium alloy transition temperature so as to form a stabilized amorphous alkali titanate layer and a sufficient concentration gradient of alkali and titanium ions to permit the growth of apatite thereon from solutions containing apatite-containing ions.
