Provided are a manufacturing method which can efficiently manufacture a display device with higher image quality, and a manufacturing apparatus which can be applied to the manufacturing method. Position adjustment is carried out so that a seal pattern () formed on at least one of a bottom substrate () and a top substrate () and having a shape along an outer edge of each of a plurality of display panels () coincides with a projected portion pattern () () formed on at least one of a pair of parallel surfaces (S) (S) in a bottom surface plate () and a top surface plate () and having a planar shape corresponding to the seal pattern (), and pressure is applied to the bottom substrate () and the top substrate () in a Z direction by the bottom surface plate () and the top surface plate (). Therefore, a gap between the bottom substrate () and the top substrate () in an effective screen area () can be formed more uniformly, and a display device with higher image quality can be efficiently manufactured.

This invention relates to a fluorescent screen structure wherein a plurality of first electrodes (for example stripelike selected electrodes) having a plurality of fluorescent substances (especially fluorescent substances of different colors for a color screen) severally deposited thereon and second electrodes (for example stripelike reverse bias electrodes not for electrodeposition) not having the fluorescent substances deposited thereon between these first electrodes are provided on a common base (especially a glass substrate for a fluorescent screen panel) and a field emission display (FED) using this and methods for manufacturing these. According to the invention, even in such cases as when pillars for supporting a high vacuum are formed in an FED, a uniform fluorescent screen can be obtained without the pillars constituting an obstruction and a fluorescent substance can be deposited in such a way that it will not subsequently impair the level of a vacuum in a display in which the fluorescent screen is used and also a fluorescent substance can be deposited in a pattern such as a narrow stripe pattern having fine widths and fine pitches highly precisely and without mixed colors and with good manufacturability.

Method for manufacturing a fluorescent screen display

A liquid crystal is dropped on one end portion of a bottom substrate that is coated with a sealing material in an outer peripheral portion. After a top substrate is laid on the bottom substrate, the liquid crystal is expanded from the one end portion of the bottom substrate toward the other end portion. If necessary, an air ejecting opening is formed in the sealing material at a position located in the other end portion of the bottom substrate. The surfaces of the top and bottom substrates may be formed with grooves for accommodating an excessive part of the liquid crystal at positions inside the sealing member. As a result, no air bubbles remain in the liquid crystal even if the charging of the liquid crystal is performed at the atmospheric pressure.

A light emitting device having transparent electrodes deposited in stripes on a glass substrate of a fluorescent screen panel, and black mask layers provided in stripes between respective electrodes so as not to overlap the transparent electrodes. Because the black mask layers do not overlap the transparent electrodes, the fluorescent materials have similar pattern to that of the transparent electrodes and do not overlap the black mask layers. Accordingly, the transparent electrodes and fluorescent materials may be finely patterned.

These advantages can be achieved without making image display unstable due to charging-up of the black mask and straying of secondary electrons.

A method of forming a fluorescent screen for a field emission display by electrodeposition comprises: forming a transparent solid electrode or transparent stripe or dot electrodes (1) in an effective area and a guard electrode (3, 8) in an ineffective area surrounding the effective area on the inner surface of a screen panel (13), immersing the screen panel (13) in an electrodeposition solution (12G, 12B, 12R, 12M) containing dispersed particles of a fluorescent material and contained in an electrodeposition tank (11), applying a voltage to the transparent solid electrode or the transparent stripe or dot electrodes, and a reverse bias voltage to the guard electrode (3, 8) to deposit particles of the fluorescent material only on the transparent solid electrode or the transparent stripe or dot electrodes to which the voltage is applied. The guard electrode (3, 8) prevents the deposition of particles of the fluorescent material in the ineffective area.

An optical information record medium comprising a transparent substrate, an optical information recording layer, and a reflective metal layer. The reflective metal layer is formed of an aluminum-titanium alloy in which the titanium content is between 0.1 and 10 weight %. The metal of the second layer is thus alloyed to the first layer due to the focused irradiation of the laser beams from the substrate to the recording layer, changing the conditions for the multiple reflections and changing the reflectance in the recording layer as viewed from the substrate, thereby carrying out the recording of the information.
