The object of the present invention is to eliminate a double image of a display apparatus for automobiles in which an image of displayer is reflected by a transparent reflection plate toward a driver's seat so that the display image for displaying information on the condition of the vehicle such as vehicle speed can be seen as a virtual image. A display apparatus for automobiles according to the present invention comprising: a displayer for emitting display light; a reflection plate having a first surface on a driver's seat side and a second surface on a side opposite to the driver's seat, the display light diagonally falling on the first surface and being reflected on the first surface to be directed to an eye range, a display image of the displayer being recognized from the driver's seat side within a display range on the first surface, at least a portion of the second surface corresponding to the display range of the first surface being diagonally disposed in relation to the first surface.

Display apparatus for automobiles

This invention relates to a display apparatus for a vehicle having a head up display with a hologram for reflecting display light from a displayer. The display apparatus for a vehicle according to the present invention comprises: a displayer for displaying vehicle information; a hologram having a reflecting function installed in the vicinity of a lower portion of a windshield, the hologram diffracting a display light from the displayer toward a driver of the vehicle; and a dark member attached to a rear face of the hologram to shield external light entering the hologram.

An on-vehicle display used in automotive vehicles for displaying an image projected from within a dashboard of a vehicle. A first reflecting surface on a windshield of a vehicle. The first reflecting surface is at a first angle with the dashboard. A second reflecting surface on a reflector is mounted in the proximity to a lower end portion of the windshield. The second reflecting surface is at a lower position than the first reflecting surface and at a second angle with the dashboard. A vehicle speed sensor for outputting a vehicle speed signal indicative of said vehicle speed to said controller. A controller guides the image projected from within the dashboard either to the first reflecting surface or to the second reflecting surface depending on a vehicle speed. A photodetector outputs a light intensity signal indicative of an intensity of ambient light in the proximity to the windshield. A controller receives the light intensity signal from the photodetector and guides the image projected from within the dashboard to the second reflecting surface when the light intensity signal is outside a predetermined range.

The display apparatus for vehicles being reduced in reflection at the external light suppression prisms disposed on the surface of the display device and providing a bright display image, in which included are the display device and the external light suppression prisms consisting of first and second prisms being stacked together by directing the prism apex angles in opposite directions to each other and disposed close to the display surface of the display device, a reflecting member to reflect the display light emitted from the display device, which light has passed through the prisms, toward the viewing point of the driver, and a polarized direction rotating means being disposed between the prisms and the reflecting member for rotating the polarization direction of the display light by 90 degrees, whereby the display light is emitted as a P-polarization light with respect to the reflecting surface of the reflecting member.

Display apparatus for vehicles

A display apparatus has a first image emitting unit reflecting external light and a second image emitting unit emitting a second image towards the first image emitting unit. The second image is reflected by the first image emitting unit substantially in the same direction as the first image is emitted from the first image emitting unit. A reflection member reflects the first and second images in a predetermined direction, for example, towards a viewpoint of driver in case of application for automobiles. The reflected images may be observed as a superimposed virtual image. The superimposed virtual image is easy for an observer to focus thereon, resulting in high visibility of displayed image.

A non-regular reflection type holographic mirror which can reduce, when mounted as a reflection plate on a windshield of a vehicle, the inclination of a display image visually discerned by reflection and a process of manufacturing the same. The holographic mirror comprises a hologram plate including a transparent support member and a photosensitive agent layer formed on the transparent support member and having interference fringes formed therein such that the hologram plate has a function of a concave mirror at a first portion of the hologram plate and another function of a convex mirror at a second portion of the hologram plate on opposite sides of a horizontal center line. An object of this invention is to provide a vehicle's display system in which the display surface of a display unit set deep in an opening structure of the instrument panel is prevented from being directly seen obliquely of the display window from side. In a vehicle's display system, a light control film (LCF) 7 is bonded to a half mirror 12 to cover its predetermined portion which spreads upwardly from the line thereof which is closest to the display surface of a display unit, to regulate light transmitting through the film obliquely from side.

The indication display unit according to the present invention is constructed such that an image indicated by an indicator disposed within the dashboard is projected towards and reflected on a prism provided at the lower portion of the windshield so that the driver can observe the image behind the prism as the virtual image thereof, and is characterized in that the prism can be shifted namely between the first and the second positions thereof, wherein when the prism is located in the first position, the indicated image projected from the indicator is reflected on the surface of the prism and directed to the driver's visual point, whereas in the second position thereof, the prism has been completely shifted away from the driver's visual field by position shifting elements, and the indicated image projected from the indicator is thereby reflected on the inner surface of the windshield and directed to the driver's visual point. Further, the indication display unit constructed as above is also characterized in that the prism is shifted upward or downward along with the inner surface of the windshield, or that the prism is pivoted on a rotational shaft provided near the bottom surface thereof so as to be set either in the first position or in the second position thereof.

The present invention provides an indication display unit for vehicles which comprises an indicating means for displaying vehicle operational information either firmly attached on the dashboard or encased in a case disposed in a dashboard, and a prism having at least three faces mounted on the dashboard in such a manner that a crest portion thereof is directed upwards at which a first and a second faces thereof abutting with each other, the first and second faces being directed, respectively, toward the driver's seat and to the windshield, and the third face firmly attached either to the dashboard or to the case such that the indication surface of the indicating means is directed upwards, whereby an indicated image projected from the indicating means enters the prism by way of the third face thereof, the indicated image entered the prism being reflected on the inner surface of the second face so as finally to be visibly observed through the first face. The above indication display unit enables a driver to visibly observe an indicated image near the driver's visual field of the windshield by reflecting the indicated image from the indicating member on a reflecting member mounted on the dashboard, and at the same time provides a stably maintained reflecting surface, an improved observability and also an improved image quality are provided.

A pointer for use in an instrument panel, such as a speedometer, in a vehicle. According to one embodiment, the pointer includes a conically shaped pointer body to which a pointer base is secured. A light source is disposed within the pointer base and a slit is provided in the body. The inner surface of the pointer body is reflective such that light directed from the light source is reflected off of the reflective surface and through the slit. In another embodiment the light source is disposed externally of the pointer and a reflecting member is provided in the pointer for reflecting the light towards the distal end of the conical body. The reflecting member can include a reflecting mirror or, alternatively, a prism.

An automotive display apparatus of the head-up display type which provides a freedom in selecting the setting position of an indicator and which provides a good remote display. An indicator 1 is installed in a dashboard 3. An opening 3c is formed through an upper portion of the dashboard 3 for allowing light from the display of the indicator 1 to pass therethrough and be reflected by the windshield 2 toward the driver's viewing point 6. A transparent face plate 7 is disposed between the indicator 1 and the opening 3c. Further, a defroster duct 8 is arranged inside the dashboard 3. When a defroster switch is turned on, the air passes through the duct 8 and ascends along the face plate 7 to be blown at the surface of the windshield 2 through the opening 3c in the dashboard.

Display device for vehicles

A prism-type pointer is provided adjacent to a front face of a prism-type dial plate in such a manner that their prism apex angles are directed in opposite directions, respectively. Those portions of the dial plate having characters/scale markings or the like are recessed, and a light source is provided at a back side of the dial plate. A pointer drive portion is provided on a bottom surface of the dial plate so as to effect a parallel movement of the pointer.
