The conveyor system is disclosed as appended to a web-fed printing press, for transporting the completed signatures from a delivery fan to a stacking station. Included is a first conveyor having a pair of endless chains each having a series of first grippers in transverse alignment with their counterparts on the other endless chain. Each transversely aligned pair of first grippers conjointly grips, in a loading position immediately downstream of the delivery fan, a signature at two spaced points on one edge thereof and releases the same in a transfer position intermediate the delivery and stacking station. A second conveyor has but one endless chain with a series of second grippers mounted thereto. Each second gripper grips, in the transfer position, the signature at a point on the edge thereof intermediate the two spaced points where the signature has been gripped by one pair of first grippers on the first conveyor, and releases the signature at the stacking station. The two conveyors are driven independently of each other.

Printing conveyor system

In a signature-stacking apparatus, a conveyor chain holding a row of signatures travels along a conveyance path. A first signature release section and a second signature release section are provided in the conveyance path. During travel from the first signature release section to the second signature release section, the conveyor chain is twisted by 180 degrees about the direction of travel and makes a 180-degree turn about an axis parallel to a connection pin of the conveyor chain. Signatures released from the first and second signature release sections are conveyed to first and second signature delivery sections disposed on opposite sides of a stacking section by first and second conveyor mechanisms while their speed of conveyance is being adjusted. A predetermined number of signatures are delivered, while being led by their creases, into the stacking section from the first and second signature delivery sections alternately.

Signature-stacking apparatus

A rotary drum of the folding device includes a reference portion having a rotating shaft and a basic body rotated integrally with the rotating shaft an adjusted portion able to be rotated integrally with the reference portion and arranged so as to be displaced with respect to the reference portion; an adjusting operation mechanism having a driving source for displacing the adjusted portion with respect to the reference portion, a power source arranged in the reference portion, a control board additionally arranged in the driving source and having a wireless receiving function, and a wireless operation machine for wirelessly transmitting an operation signal to the control board; and an adjusting transmission mechanism for transmitting a movement of the driving source to the adjusted portion; wherein electric power is supplied from the power source to the driving source, and the driving source is operated by a wireless signal from the adjusting operation mechanism.

Rotary drum of folding device

A rotary drum of the folding device comprises a reference portion having a rotating shaft and a basic body rotated integrally with the rotating shaft an adjusted portion able to be rotated integrally with the reference portion and arranged so as to be displaced with respect to the reference portion; an adjusting operation mechanism having a driving source for displacing the adjusted portion with respect to the reference portion, a power source arranged in the reference portion, a control board additionally arranged in the driving source and having a wireless receiving function, and a wireless operation machine for wirelessly transmitting an operation signal to the control board and an adjusting transmission mechanism for transmitting a movement of the driving source to the adjusted portion; wherein electric power is supplied from the power source to the driving source and the driving source is operated by a wireless signal from the adjusting operation mechanism.

A blanket cylinder used in offset lithography includes a cylinder body, a retainer spindle and a resilient member. The cylinder body has an undercut groove with a first undercut longitudinal edge for engaging a first flange of a carrier sheet and a second undercut longitudinal edge for temporarily engaging a rim of the carrier sheet. The retainer spindle is received in the undercut groove for bi-directional rotation. The retainer spindle includes a pull-in hook that engages the rim of the carrier sheet to pull a second end portion thereof into the undercut groove with rotation of the retainer spindle in a first direction and a push-out ledge abuts against the rim of the carrier sheet in order to push a second end portion thereof out of the undercut groove with rotation of the retainer spindle in a second direction. The resilient member energizes the retainer spindle in the first direction.

Blanket cylinder providing for ready mounting and dismounting of a blanket

A wall is provided on one side of a web of paper or the like traveling along a predefined path, and an airstream is produced between the wall and the traveling web approximately in the direction of web travel. A transverse static pressure gradient is established across the airstream, causing the stream to flow close to the wall surface. This phenomenon is called as the Coanda effect. A partial vacuum created in the airstream causes the web to deflect from its normal path and to be drawn to the wall surface under sufficient pressure to be kept from fluttering. This method of web flutter control is applied to the splicing of webs, as from one roll to another in a web-fed rotary printing press. The web being unwound from the old roll has been susceptible to fluttering while being spliced to the new roll, such web fluttering being eliminable by providing a wall member along the web path and producing an airstream between the web and the wall member.

Method and apparatus for web flutter containment, and application to web splicing

An ink fountain has one side closed by a fountain roller constantly exposed to the ink contained therein. Forming a part of the fountain bottom, a blade assembly defines in combination with the fountain roller an ink outlet which is to be closed and opened as the blade assembly travels toward and away from the fountain roller. Sprung away from the fountain roller, the blade assembly is moved toward the fountain roller against the spring bias by at least two linear actuators such as double-ended-rod fluid actuators spaced from each other in the axial direction of the fountain roller. The output members of the linear actuators, such as the reciprocable cylinders of the double-ended-rod fluid actuators, are rigidly interconnected as by a simple link, being aligned parallel to the fountain roller axis, for synchronous operation, thereby conjointly causing the travel of the blade assembly into leak-free contact with the fountain roller.

Leak-free ink supply apparatus for keyless printing

An ink supply unit of a keyless printing press is capable of preventing leakage of an ink while printing is interrupted. The ink supply unit includes a movable blade provided between the both side plates in integral form, inclined descending toward a tip end side, supported on a base for movement toward and away from the peripheral surface of the fountain roller, driving means for driving the movable blade between a position where a tip end of the movable blade contacts to the peripheral surface of the fountain roller and a predetermined position where the tip end of the movable blade is located away from the peripheral surface of the fountain roller, and guide means coupled with the movable blade and guiding the movable blade so that the tip end of the movable blade moves with respect to the peripheral surface of the fountain roller with maintaining a predetermined attitude.

Ink supply unit for keyless printing press

A printing machine in which a plate cylinder 1 is formed with a slit 11 for accepting the leading and trailing edges of a printing plate PP, a plurality of small holes 12 are arranged along the slit 11 and open to the surface of the plate cylinder 1, an air tubular path 2 is connectable both to a suction source 5 and an air delivery source 4 and communicates with the plural small holes 12, and a switching mechanism 3 is disposed in the air tubular path to switch between the air suction operation and the air delivery operation through the opening portions of the plural small holes 12. The switching mechanism 3 is disposed in the air tubular path 2 that lies between the plate cylinder 1 and both of the air suction and delivery sources 5 and 4. An operating unit 34 is disposed in or on the plate cylinder 1 for operating the switching mechanism 3.

Apparatus for fixing printing plate to plate cylinder and removing

An ink fountain apparatus for a printing press includes an inclined member with an ink supply adjusting member which is swingable about an axis parallel with the rotational axis of an ink fountain roller for movement between a first position where ink fountain is formed and a second position where the ink fountain is not formed. Piston rods of hydraulic cylinders are connected to the inclined member via a connection mechanism to move the inclined member between the first position and the second position. Stoppers are also provided to stop the inclined member at the first position. Springs are included in the connection mechanism to press the inclined member against the stoppers. The spring force produced by the springs is smaller than the force produced by the drive means. With this structure, the work load of an operator can be reduced while enhancing the efficiency and safety of his work. Also, it is possible to prevent the inclined member from deforming even when the inclined member contacts the stoppers in different states, thereby guaranteeing smooth adjustment of the ink supply adjusting member and improving the ability of the ink fountain apparatus to supply ink.

Ink fountain apparatus for printing press

An ink fountain apparatus includes a plurality of ink blade segments which are arranged in a row extending in the axial direction of a ink fountain roller to form an adjustable ink supplying port between the ink blade segments and the peripheral surface of the ink fountain roller, and an adjusting mechanism provided for each of the ink blade segments to adjust the degree of opening of the ink supplying port. The adjusting mechanism includes a spring which forces the ink blade segment to retract away from the ink fountain roller, a press rod which contacts the rear end of the blade segment at its forward end and is provided with a cam follower facing toward the direction of retracting movement of the blade segment, and an end cam member which is rotatable about a rotational axis parallel to the direction of movement of the blade segment and has a cam surface which is in contact with the cam follower. The drive/transmission means mechanically coupled with the end cam member has a rotational axis parallel to the rotational axis of the end cam member. With this structure, the total size of the ink fountain apparatus and space needed for installing the ink fountain apparatus can be reduced.

Ink fountain apparatus

An ink fountain apparatus comprises a storage part for forming an ink storage space in cooperation with an external periphery of a fountain roller, the storage part including a bottom portion having a front edge which is opposed to the external periphery of the fountain roller with a gap defined by the front edge and the external periphery, the gap serving as an inc supplying port, an ink supply adjusting member arranged movably forward and rearward in contact/separation directions with respect to the fountain roller to adjust the degree of opening of the ink supplying port by means of the front edge of the ink supply adjusting member, a screw feeding mechanism for driving the ink supply adjusting member to move it forward and rearward, and stopper means for restricting the rotation of a rotation driving member of the screw feeding mechanism. The stopper means includes stopper parts which are respectively provided on the rotation driving member and a fixed part attached to the storage part, and which have side portions engageable with each other in a direction of rotation.

An ink feed adjusting apparatus for use in an ink supply equipment that includes a plurality of ink feed adjusting members juxtaposed with one another under a top plate so as to adjust the amount ink supplied by moving each of them towards or away from or bringing each of them into contact with the peripheral surface of an ink fountain roller the adjusting members have through-holes formed in each of them and cover members fitted at least in the respective upper parts of these through-holes.

Ink feed adjusting apparatus for use in ink supply equipment

A roller shifting device for a printing press comprises first support means for supporting a form dampening roller for shifting the form dampening roller relative to a surface of a plate on a plate cylinder between a first contacting position and a second released position, second support means for supporting a transfer roller for shifting the transfer roller relative to the form dampening roller between a first contacting position and a second released position, third support means for supporting another roller other than the transfer roller and to be contacted with and released from the form dampening roller for shifting the another roller between a first contacting position and a second released position, means for cooperating the first, second and third support means for synchronous shifting between the first and second positions, means for differentiating a shifting stroke and/or direction of the tfirst support means from those of the second and third support means, and actuating means associated with one of the first, second and third means for driving to shift the first, second and third support means in synchronism with each other.
