A device for selecting print characters of endless printing bands in a printer that, when restricting the rotation of endless printing bands for preventing fouling of display characters, can avoid excessive rotational force from acting on the endless printing bands and enable selection of desired print characters in cases where, for example, the endless printing band is for full-periphery printing or half-periphery printing. Both half-periphery printing capability and full-periphery printing capability can be implemented by providing regulating blocks capable of rotation as print pressure bearing members, the device is characterized in that selection of print characters is restricted by engagement of drive projections of an endless printing band and an elastic section of a movable stopper member and that, in the case where no drive projection engages with the elastic section, selection of print character is made possible and a regulating block receives the print pressure on the print character.

A core holding device and a cover for roll-shaped label of a label sticking machine capable of assuredly holding a roll-shaped label or a core thereof, simplifying an operation for installation and removal thereof and forming it simple and compact, characterized in that core holding members for holding the roll-shaped label are of a rotating type. In a thermal printer having a platen and thermal print head, the print head is supported on a special print head support structure which allows the print head to pivot so as to apply a uniform pressure across the width of labels or price tags which are fed between the print head and the platen. The support structure for the print head includes: a two-part support member including a print head attachment member for holding the thermal print head and a pressing member for pressing the thermal print head toward the platen; a fixed spindle for rotatably supporting the support member; and a pivot member between the thermal print head attachment member and the spindle, the pivot member enabling the attachment member, and therefore the print head, to pivot in a plane parallel to the axis of the platen in a manner which tends to equalize the pressure across the labels or price tags being imprinted.

A versatile hand held thermal printer has a hinged bottom cover which can be opened to provide easier access and loading of a roll of labels into the thermal printer. In a first mode of operation, printed labels emerge through the front of the label printer one by one, peeled from their backing sheet and ready for being applied directly to an article. In a second mode, the labels emerge attached to a strip of backing sheet to provide a plurality of printed labels on a strip. The hinged bottom cover of the labeler has cutters both at the front and at the rear thereof to enable a length of the strip of labels issuing at the front or a length of the backing sheet at the rear to be easily cut off. In a further embodiment, the thermal printer is positioned on a stand and the stand further supports a control unit into which information that is to be printed on the labels is inputted. The stand further includes an upright reel supporter on which a roll or web of thermal tag strips can be located. The thermal tag strip is guided into the printer unit for imprinting information thereon.

A hand held thermal printer has a hingedly mounted bottom cover which can be opened to provide comfortable access into the printer and therefore substantially simplified loading of a roll of labels into the printer. The platen roller of the printer which normally abuts the print head of the printer is supported on a pivotable platen arm. The platen arm, like the bottom cover can be pivoted to an open position to provided direct access to the print head. The print head is held in place by a retainer plate which is held by screws and the screws can be simply loosened to permit the print head to be easily replaced. In the open position of the platen arm a wide and straight label passage is created through which the leading end of the backing sheet on which the labels are located could be easily threaded into the printer.

A desk-top and/or hand held thermal printer comprises a main unit having a guide path therein for a moving continuous label strip which includes a backing sheet and discrete labels detachably attached to the backing sheet. The printer has a flat bottom surface for resting on a flat surface; a retaining means for supporting a roll of backing sheet and labels and guiding the labels through a thermal printing device where a bar code or the like is thermally printed on the thermosensitive labels; a label peeling means for peeling the labels from the backing sheet; a label affixing means for affixing the peeled-off labels on objects; a data input means for example a keyboard or a computer input terminal; a data display means; and a controller for controlling the entire printer.

Thermal label printer

A setting and winding mechanism for a tape-like laminate in a laminator for facilitating the initial setting of tape-like materials to the laminator while avoiding the waste of materials. The mechanism comprises a feeding device for feeding a laminate strip, a sensor to detect the position of the laminates strip, a cutter to cut the laminate strip into laminate pieces, a delivery device to deliver the cut laminate pieces, a take-up device to initially wind up the free end of the laminate strip, and a drive controlling device connected to operate both of the delivery and take up devices in a desired sequence.

A portable thermal label printer employing an optical reader such as a pen or touch scanner for data input is disclosed. The operator needs only to hold the scanner, while the remaining components are held around the operator's waist or the like. The operator can therefore use both hands to handle articles of freight, and enables freight to be handled and labels to be printed easily and efficiently. Further, the arrangement of the thermal label roll with respect to the thermal print head enables the overall unit to be made light and compact.

Portable thermal label printer

A revolving base roller and a stationary cutter are mounted on opposite sides of the path of a laminated strip, in order to partially cut the strip from one side at desired cut lines along its length. The laminated strip includes a strip of printed labels on the printed side of which is overlaid a transparent film strip which is disposed toward the stationary cutter as the laminated strip passes along its path. A sensor detects an indication that the labels are properly positioned, and a control circuit receives a signal from the sensor and causes a single rotation of the revolving base roller. As the base roller revolves, it pushes against the opposite side of the laminated strip, causing the film strip to be pushed against the stationary cutter, resulting in the cutting of the film strip along the desired cut line. The stationary cutter may be adjusted to provide a cut of the desired depth.
