A method for facilitating communication between parent telephones and child telephones in a cordless telephone system. The method includes steps of dividing a plurality of channels into groups and assigning each parent telephone to one of the groups. When a child telephone is registered with one of the parent telephones, the child telephone may scan only the channels in the group assigned to the parent telephone with which the child telephone is registered, rather than the entire plurality of channels in the cordless telephone system.

A system and method for processing an extraordinarily large amount of data is configured using ordinary versatile computers of relatively slow data processing speed. Tasking is shared to plural computers or processors connected to a system bus; a shared storage device provided in common for these processors is made up of plural memory banks connected to the system bus; data transferred between the processors and the memory banks are divided into predetermined amounts of divisional data; the divisional data are processed simultaneously in parallel fashion; and each memory bank is occupied simultaneously in parallel fashion in response to each memory request from each processor. An arbitrator is provided for acting on a single memory request in accordance with a predetermined priority order in the case where plural memory requests are outputted simultaneously to the same memory bank.

An apparatus for continuously measuring a gradient of a curved surface at a number of different points thereon is disclosed in which a laser beam reflected at the point to be measured on the surface makes a beam spot on a photo sensor. The photo sensor follows the beam spot while the center of the beam spot and the center of the photo sensor coincide. The displacement between the beam spot from the point subjected to measurement and the beam spot from a reference point on the surface of the photo sensor is proportional to the gradient at the point subjected to measurement. The photo sensor is, for example, a differential type which comprises four photo diodes. The numerical control table is used to determine the positional relationship of the point to be measured with respect to the laser beam and an X-Y recorder is used to follow the beam spot.
