An ion-selective electrode has a responsive glass membrane with an exterior thin film containing titanium dioxide of an anatase type that is continuously formed as an integrated body. The thin film, of several hundred nm in numbers, is electrically connected by an amount of titanium dioxide that will form a continuity in the thin film structure. The thin film can be porous and contain at least one metal selected from cobalt, nickel, tungsten, copper, platinum, gold, silver and iron. Additionally, significantly larger titanium dioxide particles of 0.02 &#x3bc;m in diameter can be further mixed into the thin film.

Responsive glass membrane and glass electrode

Disclosed is a sensitive glass film for a pH electrode, which is not deteriorated in its glass strength or pH-measuring function, which is hardly stained, and from which any stain can be removed easily. Also disclosed is a pH electrode having the sensitive glass film. A microparticle comprising rutile-type or brookite-type titanium dioxide or a microparticle comprising amorphous titanium dioxide is adhered directly on the glass film surface of a sensitive glass film for a pH electrode.

Method for production of responsive glass membrane for ion electrode, responsive glass membrane for ion electrode, and ion electrode

The present claimed invention intends to provide a responsive glass membrane for ion selective electrode glass and an ion selective electrode comprising the responsive glass membrane that produces a self-cleaning function when the ultraviolet rays are irradiated although no change is brought in a composition of a sample solution as being an object to be measured and that is low in electric resistance value and superior in responsivity under an ordinary measurement environment. The responsive glass membrane for ion selective electrode is made of the titanium-containing oxide glass that contains 20&#x2dc;80 mol % of titanium dioxide and lithium oxide.
