An electrode mixture paste is applied on both sides of a strip of core material as it runs along its lengthwise direction, and the coating thickness of the paste is adjusted as the core material coated with the paste passes through a gap between a pair of scraper tools. Tips provided to the scraper tools scrape off the paste to form a paste-coated portion of a predetermined width. The electrode mixture paste scraped off with the tips is returned through recesses on the upstream side of the tips in the running direction of the core material, so as to prevent the phenomenon where the coating thickness is increased at both side edges of the paste-coated portion. Thus, a method for applying electrode mixture paste is realized that can prevent the phenomenon where the coating thickness is increased at both side edges of the paste-coated portion.

Apparatus for applying electrode mixture paste with homogeneous distribution of coating amount of electrode mixture paste

An electrode mixture paste () is applied on both sides of a strip of core material () as it runs along its lengthwise direction, and the coating thickness of the paste () is adjusted as the core material () coated with the paste () passes through a gap between a pair of scraper tools (). Tips () provided to the scraper tools () scrape off the paste () to form a paste-coated portion of a predetermined width. The electrode mixture paste () scraped off with the tips () is returned through recesses () on the upstream side of the tips () in the running direction of the core material, so as to prevent the phenomenon where the coating thickness is increased at both side edges of the paste-coated portion. Thus, a method for applying electrode mixture paste is realized that can prevent the phenomenon where the coating thickness is increased at both side edges of the paste-coated portion and prevent process failures such as deformation of paste-coated sheet.

A method for applying an electrode mixture paste includes: a first step of unwinding a core material () wound in a coil shape; a second step of applying an electrode mixture paste () onto the core material; a third step of adjusting an application amount of the electrode mixture paste; a fourth step of drying a paste-coated sheet () with the electrode mixture paste applied to the both sides thereof; and a fifth step of winding the paste-coated sheet in a coil shape. In this method, in one of the second and third steps, a core material-exposed portion () to which the electrode mixture paste is not applied is provided in both edge portions in a width direction of the core material, and, in the fourth step, a holding unit is provided in at least one position, the holding unit continuously holding the core material-exposed portion between a wheel type roller () and a contact belt () and changing a traveling direction of the paste-coated sheet. A stable electrode mixture paste application method can be achieved by preventing the occurrence of wrinkles formed when the electrode mixture paste containing a high specific gravity material is applied and dried in order to avoid the reduction in application accuracy due to the flow of the electrode mixture paste.

Method for applying electrode mixture paste and application apparatus

An electrode mixture paste () is applied on both sides of a strip of core material () made of porous metal sheet that is running along its lengthwise direction. The paste-coated core material () is pressed with press rollers () alternately from opposite sides once or more, after which the paste-coated core material () is passed through the gap between a pair of scraper tools () to adjust the coating thickness of the paste (), while the position of the core material () is restricted with comb-shaped projections (or), so that, even though the projections () are distanced from each other sufficiently to allow weld points of the core material () to pass through, the coating thickness is precisely regulated. Therefore, a method of applying an electrode mixture paste is realized, with which coating thickness is precisely adjusted and, even in a continuous production process in which core materials are connected together by welding, production failures due to weld points being stuck are prevented.
