A lens film including a transparent substrate film and a concave or convex lens layer provided on a side of the substrate film. The lens layer contains a resin composition with conductive fine particles dispersed therein and has a surface resistivity of not more than 10 &OHgr;/&square;. Another embodiment is a lens film including a transparent substrate film, a conductive layer provided on a side of the substrate film, and a concave or convex lens layer provided on the conductive layer, the conductive layer having a surface resistivity of not more than 10 &OHgr;/&square;. The lens film can be part of a surface light source where the light-receiving side of the lens film is disposed on the light outlet side. The surface light source can be part of a liquid crystal display device.

A directional diffusing film of the invention includes a base film, and a plurality of convex directionality-providing elements regularly arranged on at least one surface of the base film. A section of a first directionality-providing element in a first plane including a top of the directionality-providing element has a shape of a substantially triangle, and a section of the directionality-providing element in a second plane including the top of the directionality-providing element and perpendicular to the first plane has a top of a second directionality-providing element and a shape of a continuous wave. The directional diffusing film having characteristics specified by the invention can diffuse light in proper directionally diffused light, while maintaining high light-diffusing ability. The directional diffusing film utilizes light highly efficiently as compared with conventional diffusing films.

Directional diffusing film

A non-light-diffusive light guide plate, the light-diffusing properties being not imparted thereto by means of printing or the like, has a light-emerging surface provided with a condenser lens which is produced by arranging columnar lenses having convex cross-sections so that their ridge lines will be parallel with each other, and, at the same time, vertical to the side end surface, the light-entering surface of the light guide plate. The shape of the cross-section of the light guide plate is such that the thickness becomes smaller as the distance from the side end surface on the light-source side becomes longer and that the inclination of the line corresponding to the light-reflecting surface which is opposed to the light-emerging surface is steeper on the light-source side than on the non-light-source side. A surface light equipment comprises, as a means for raising light which emerges from the light-emerging surface of the light guide plate to the direction of the normal of the light-emerging surface, a lens film on which columnar lenses having triangular cross-sections are arranged so that their ridge lines will be parallel with each other. This lens film is arranged so that the ridge lines of the columnar lenses will be parallel with the side end surface serving as the light-entering surface and that the vertexes of the triangles will face the light guide plate.

Lens light guide plate and surface light equipment using the same

A surface light source is capable of emitting light in a narrow directional luminance distribution, at a low loss in quantity of light and in a uniform surface luminance distribution, and consists of a relatively small number of parts. The surface light source is provided with a nondiffusive light guide plate and a lens film. The surface light source assembly need not be provided with any diffusive film on the outer side of the light exit surface of the light guide plate, because the light guide plate is not provided with any diffusive reflecting layer of printed dots on the back surface thereof. The back surface is a concavely curved surface extended opposite to the light exit surface, having a section in a plane perpendicular to both the side light entrance surface and the nondiffusive light exit surface, delineated by a concave curve, such as an approximate parabolic curve, and curved so that the space between the light exit surface and the back surface, and the gradient thereof decrease with distance measured in the direction of travel of received light rays from the side light entrance surface. The lens film has a light entrance surface provided with a plurality of triangular prisms in a two-dimensional arrangement. The vertical angle of the triangular prisms is determined so that light rays leaving the light exit surface of the light guide plate in a direction oblique to and deviating from a normal to the light exit surface can be refracted so as to leave the light exit surface of the lens film in a direction parallel to a normal to the light exit surface of the lens film.
