The invention relates to a method and system for establishing a connection between a vehicle network service and an external application. The method comprises: in a vehicle (), defining (S) a trusted hotspot device () external to a vehicle gateway (), the trusted hotspot device being connected to the vehicle gateway; in the trusted hotspot device, receiving (S) a request from an application external to the vehicle requesting access to a service () on the vehicle network () via the vehicle gateway; in the vehicle gateway, determining (S) if the requested vehicle network service is available on the vehicle network (); and if the requested vehicle network service is available on the vehicle network, configuring (S) the vehicle gateway to allow the requesting application to communicate with the requested vehicle network service.

Method and a system for establishing a connection between an on-board vehicle network service and an external application

During operation, an access point receives a message a message from a second access point with second information specifying loading of the second access point. Then, the access point receives a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) request from an electronic device with an Internet protocol (IP) address of the access point and a media access control (MAC) address of the electronic device. Next, the access point determines, based at least in part on information specifying loading of the access point, the second information and the MAC address, an assigned IP address of a gateway for the electronic device to access a second network, where the assigned IP address is one of: the IP address of the access point, or a second IP address of the second access point. Moreover, the access point provides a DHCP response to the electronic device with the assigned IP address.

Dynamic load balancing of gateway access points

The invention relates to a method for establishing a wireless communication channel between a vehicle and a vehicle accessory. The method comprises, in the vehicle: detecting a wired communication channel between the vehicle and the accessory; transmitting a vehicle identifier from the vehicle to the accessory via the wired communication channel; receiving an accessory identifier; deriving a unique code based on the vehicle identifier and the accessory identifier using a predetermined function; broadcasting the unique code by a vehicle wireless transceiver. In the vehicle accessory: deriving the unique code based on the vehicle identifier and the accessory identifier using the same predetermined function as used in the vehicle; receiving the broadcast unique code; determining that the received code corresponds to the determined unique code; finding a network broadcasting the unique code; and establishing a wireless connection between the wireless transceiver of the vehicle and the wireless transceiver of the accessory using the network characterized by the unique code.

Method, apparatuses and arrangement for establishing a wireless connection between a vehicle and a vehicle accessory

An access point that provides link aggregation is described. During operation, this access point receives a message that may include a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) response with an Internet protocol (IP) address of a gateway for an electronic device to access a network and a media access control (MAC) address of the electronic device. Based on the MAC address and/or at least a characteristic of the electronic device (such as a configuration, a capability and/or an operating system of the electronic device), the access point may determine a different IP address of another gateway for the electronic device to access the network. Moreover, the access point may modify the DHCP response by substituting the IP address of the other gateway for the IP address of gateway in a modified DHCP response. Next, the access point provides the modified DHCP response to the electronic device.

Systems and methods of providing zero configuration (zeroconf) networking by a processor according to some embodiments of the inventions here may include bridging a zeroconf multicast service discovery query from a first multicast domain to a second multicast domain, and receiving a multicast service advertisement of the second multicast domain at the first multicast domain in response to the bridged multicast service discovery query.

Localizing a multicast service

A mesh network with a network-wide pre-shared key (PSK) that can be updated is described. The PSK can be used to establish secure communication between arbitrary electronic devices in the mesh network. In order to prevent electronic devices from being inadvertently 'stranded,' i.e., unable to securely communicate with other electronic devices in the mesh network when the PSK is updated, pairs of electronic devices in the mesh network establish personal PSKs (PPSKs). In particular, after securely associating with each other, a given pair of electronic devices may have used the current PSK to authenticate and encrypt their communication. Then, the given pair of electronic devices may define a PPSK, e.g., by exchanging one or more random numbers. If a subsequent attempt at establishing secure or encrypted communication between the given pair of electronic devices fails, these electronic devices may use the PPSK as a backup to establish the encrypted communication.
