Disclosed herein is a printing system is described having a first printer including a fuser employing fuser oil, and a coater disposed upstream or downstream from the first printer and being configured to deposit a wax coating on a portion of the substrate. A corresponding method and a substrate also are described. The system, method and substrate are useful for preparing MICR encoded documents such as checks.

System and method for pre-treating magnetic ink character recognition readable documents

Provided herein is a surface treatment method of oil contaminated xerographic prints which increases the adhesion of the print to levels close to the values corresponding to the original uncontaminated paper. Subjecting the contaminated surface to corona treatment alone and in combination with ultraviolet (UV) radiation and ozone can change the chemical structure of the surface of the paper in such a way that a highly polar surface is created as a consequence of this treatment, leading to enhanced adhesion properties of the xerographic print.

Method for paper treatment

Exemplary embodiments provide a pressure-seal cohesive and method for making and using the pressure-seal cohesive to form mailer type business forms. The disclosed pressure-seal cohesive can provide an improved cohesive sealing of the mailer forms. In particular, the pressure-seal cohesive can include at least one silane promoter admixed with at least one aqueous pressure sensitive compound formulation that contains pressure sensitive cohesive and/or adhesive compounds. The admixed silane promoter can have a concentration ranging from about 0.5% to about 2.5% weight percent of the pressure-seal cohesive to improve the compatibility of the pressure sensitive compounds, even if they are contaminated by the fuser oils (e.g., functionalized PDMS oil) during digital printing processes (e.g., on Xerox iGen3).

Methods and apparatus of controlling surface wettability of xerographic prints

The present teachings provide a fuser member. The fuser member includes an outer layer comprising a composite of a fluoropolymer and a networked siloxyfluorocarbon polymer.

The present disclosure provides toners having a tunable gloss level, electrophotographic apparatus for suing such toners as well as processes for making such toners.

Tunable gloss toners

The present teachings provide a fusing method and system of tuning gloss level on a copy substrate. The method includes obtaining an image forming apparatus for forming images on a recording medium including a charge-retentive surface to receive an electrostatic latent image thereon. The method includes applying toner to the charge-retentive surface to develop an electrostatic latent image to form a developed image on the charge-retentive surface. The developed image is transferred from the charge retentive surface to a copy substrate. The toner images are fused to a surface of the copy substrate. The gloss is adjusted on the copy substrate by providing a fuser member having a surface layer a fluoroplastic matrix having dispersed therein aerogel particles wherein the greater a weight percent of the aerogel particles in the fluoroplastic matrix the lower the gloss.

Method of controlling gloss

A system for heated gas fusing of toner on non-porous substrates is provided. The system uses (1) an extended fusing zone held at lower temperatures than needed for a roll nip or radiant fuser, and (2) a very low melt toner which can be fused at greatly reduced temperatures compared to conventional toners. In one form, the system is realized through (a) the use of heated gas as the low temperature extended zone fusing technology, and (b) the use of ultra-low melt (ULM) toner&#x2014;which requires significantly reduced temperature compared to conventional toner. On non-porous packaging substrates the use of heated gas can limit the substrate temperature to 100&#xb0; C.

Electrophotographic apparatus

A document comprising a substrate with a surface having cellulose hydroxy groups, an adhesion promoter present on at least a first portion of the substrate surface, and a magnetic ink image formed over the first portion of the substrate surface. The adhesion promoter comprises a silane component including at least one amino functional group and at least one of a second type of functional group that is configured to bond with cellulose hydroxyl groups in the substrate. The magnetic ink image has a magnetic signal strength of at least 80%. A corresponding printing system and a method of printing also are disclosed.
