Technologies are described herein for activating one or more operating modes of a register in a meter. The register is operated in a first mode. Light detections indicating whether the register is exposed to light or isolated from light are read. It is determined whether a condition is met based on the light detections. Upon determining that the condition is met, operating the register in a second mode.

Mode activation using light detection

Technologies are described herein for compensating for inaccuracies in flow measurement in real-time during accumulation of usage. A pulse count indicating an amount of flow in a meter over a measurement period is read. An average flow rate through the meter for the measurement period is determined and a correction factor is looked up from a table based on the average flow rate. A total usage accumulator for the meter is then updated with the amount of flow over the measurement period based on the pulse count and the correction factor.

Real-time flow compensation in usage accumulation

Disclosed are systems, methods and apparatuses for detecting tampering with a utility meter. A method may comprise measuring a magnetic field created by a rotating magnet in the meter by a removal detector sensor in a solid-state register (SSR). In addition, the SSR may be configured to detect when the SSR is dislodged or removed from the utility meter. The sensor may comprise a register removal tamper alert. The tamper detection methods described herein provide improved techniques for preventing and deterring attempts to alter meters and steal utility-provided resources.

Magnetic sensing to detect tampering with a utility meter

Technologies are described herein for detecting a reverse flow condition in a meter and providing an associated alert. An amount of reverse flow in the meter is accumulated over a time period. If the accumulated amount of reverse flow over the time period exceeds a threshold value, a reverse flow alert is provided.

Reverse flow detection and annunciation

One or more example diagnostics may be implemented as part of an intelligent luminaire manager or other radio frequency (RF) device that is in communication with an equipment or fixture such as a luminaire. Example diagnostics can determine a status such as a fixture malfunction, a cycling condition, a miswiring configuration, or another condition. The determined status can be wirelessly transmitted from the intelligent luminaire manager or other radio frequency device to a network server via a network. The network may be a network of intelligent luminaire managers and/or RF devices.
