A nonaqueous electrolyte lithium secondary cell comprising a positive electrode (), a negative electrode () and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a lithium salt is characterized by that the nonaqueous electrolyte contains a room temperature molten salt as a main component, a material wherein a working potential of the negative electrode () is nobler by above 1V than a potential of a metallic lithium is used for a negative active material of the negative electrode. This nonaqueous electrolyte lithium secondary cell has excellent safety and cell performance.

A lithium battery excellent in initial capacity, high rate discharge performance, low temperature performance and cycle life performance can be provided without the necessity of any special production step. In other words, the present invention lies in a lithium battery having a power-generating element comprising at least a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a separator wherein a gel electrolyte comprising at least a polymer and a liquid electrolyte is used in at least a part of the power-generating element, characterized in that the concentration of lithium salt in the liquid electrolyte is from 1.5 to 5 mols per l of the liquid electrolyte.

Method of making a flat type lithium secondary battery and electrode

A secondary battery improved in its cathode composite, electrolyte and anode composite in order to accomplish an excellent charge/discharge characteristic, a long-term reliability and a high performance. The secondary battery is characterized in that the electrolyte is composed of an ion-conductive high-molecular compound including one or more kinds of ionic compounds in a dissolution state, and both the cathode composite and the anode composite have the ion-conductive high-molecular compound as their component material.

This invention relates to a cathode composite for use in a primary battery and a secondary battery. In order to uniformly disperse a positive active material and a conductive agent in the cathode composite, wherein the cathode composite comprises a polar organic molecule, a chalcogen containing positive active compound, a conductive agent and a diluent, wherein the polar organic molecule has at least one acid structure based on phosphoric acid, sulfonic acid, boric acid, carboxylic acid or sulfuric acid and functions as a dispersant.

A manufacturing method for an electrode in which ultra fine particles of active material formed in gas by an evaporation method are carried in a gas flow and blown onto a surface of a substrate, so that an electrode comprising a thin film of active material is formed on the surface of the substrate. A manufacturing method for an electrode-electrolyte composite in which ultra fine particles of active material formed in gas by the evaporation method are carried in a gas flow and blown onto a surface of a film comprising a solid electrolyte, so that an electrode comprising a thin film of active material is formed on the surface of the film. The above manufacturing method for an electrode can provide an anode or a cathode comprising an ultra thin film having an uniform thickness of under 10 microns inclusive, for example. The above manufacturing method for an electrode-electrolyte composite can provide, with good productivity, an electrode-electrolyte composite in which an adhesion of the electrode with the electrolyte is excellent and the electrode is of an ultra thin type having an uniform thickness.

There is described a solid polymer electrolyte containing an ionic salt in a three-dimensional crosslinked compound of a poly(vinylalkyl ether) represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## (where R is CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5 or CH(CH.sub.3)(C.sub.2 H.sub.5); and n is an integer of 100-2,000). The poly(vinylalkyl ether) is preferably poly(vinylmethyl ether) and crosslinked by exposure to an ionizing radiation. The solid polymer electrolyte also contains a compound that is capable of solubilizing the ionic salt.
