The present invention relates to an adhesive composition comprising, among others, (i) microfibrillated cellulose and (ii) a metal in oxidation state of II or greater. The present invention further relates to uses of such an adhesive composition and to products prepared with such an adhesive composition. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a process for making corrugated paperboards or cardboards, or solid paperboards or cardboards by using such an adhesive composition.

Adhesive compositions comprising a combination of (I) microfibrillated cellulose and (II) a metal in an oxidation state of II or greater

The present invention relates to a composition for use as an adhesive, paint, coating, resin, (surface) size, composite, gel or hydrogel, said composition comprising microfibrillated cellulose ('MFC'). In addition to microfibrillated cellulose, these compositions comprise at least one solvent, said solvent preferably comprising or consisting of water, and at least one compound that is (a) capable of polymerizing, or has already partly or fully, polymerized, and that (b) has at least two groups available for hydrogen bonding, preferably OH groups, that are capable of crosslinking with at least one functional group of the microfibrillated cellulose. In these compositions, the microfibrillated cellulose primarily functions as a crosslinking agent (while it is by no means excluded that the microfibrillated cellulose additionally has other functionalities, such as acting as viscosity modifier and/or thixotropic additive), integrating the compound that (a) is capable of polymerizing or that has already partly or fully, polymerized, and that (b) has at least two groups available for hydrogen bonding, into a gel-like three-dimensional network.

Microfibrillated cellulose as a crosslinking agent

The present invention relates to starch-based adhesive compositions comprising microfibrillatedcellulose ('MFC'). In addition to microfibrillated cellulose, these adhesive compositions comprise at least one starch and/or at least one starch derivative.

Microfibrillated cellulose as rheology modifier in adhesives

The present invention relates to microfibrillated cellulose ('MFC'), in particular to microfibrillated cellulose, which is morphologically different from conventional MFC known in the art and/or which provides improved water retention properties and/or improved rheological properties, in particular increased zero shear viscosity, &#x3b7;, (also known as: 'viscosity at rest', i.e. viscosity in the absence of shear forces), in solution, in particular in polyethylene glycol (PEG) as solvent, vis-a-vis conventional MFC as known in the art.
