A dried latex emulsion coating on a surface of a metal member is used as a thin bond layer on well tubular joints, on tubular strings in wells, and on other metal members. The bond layer promotes adhesion to cement members formed from hardening a cement slurry in contact with the bond layer. The bond layer can be used in bonded cement structures, on well tubular joints, on tubular strings in a well, on tubular strings cemented in a well, in methods of making the cement structures and the tubular strings, and in methods of placing and cementing a tubular string in a well.

Latex-bonded metal and cement members

A self-adaptive cement formulation includes cement, water and thermoplastic block-polymer particles. The set cement demonstrates self-healing properties when exposed to methane, and is particularly suited for well-cementing applications. After placement and curing, the self healing properties help maintain zonal isolation should bonding be disrupted between the set cement and the formation or a casing string, should cracks or defects appear in the set-cement matrix, or both.

Self-repairing cements

This invention relates to methods for servicing subterranean wells, in particular, fluid compositions and methods for remedial operations during which the fluid compositions are pumped into a wellbore and make contact with well cements placed during primary cementing or previous remedial cementing operations.

Silica composition for servicing subterranean wells

A well cementing composition comprises water, an inorganic cement, a gas generating agent and a gas stabilizer. The gas generating agent may contain materials that release hydrogen gas, carbon dioxide gas or nitrogen gas or combinations thereof. The gas stabilizer comprises an aqueous mixture comprising polyglycols, oxyalkylates and methanol, or coco trimethyl ammonium chloride, or a mixture comprising ammonium fatty alcohol ether sulfate and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, or combinations thereof. When used to cement a subterranean well, the compositions improve the compressive strength, increase the rate at which compressive strength develops, preserve cement homogeneity, or enhance cement expansion or a combination thereof.

Compositions and methods for cementing wells

A remedial method for repairing a damaged cement sheath, especially for use in wells in which fluids with a pH lower than 6 are injected, stored or extracted, comprises placing an acid swellable composition adjacent to the cement sheath. In the event of cement-matrix failure, or bonding failure between the cement/casing interface or the cement/borehole-wall interface, the composition may be injected into or adjacent to the cement sheath so that the material swells when contacted by acid gases, including carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. The swelling seals voids in the cement matrix, or along the bonding interfaces, thereby restoring zonal isolation.

Compositions and methods for well completions

A system for improving zonal isolation incorporates a tubular having an outer surface and a swellable coating that coats the outer surface. The swellable coating has an external surface, a composition provided in an annular space outside the tubular, or both. The swellable coating is made of a first swellable material that can swell when contacted by a first fluid on the external surface. The composition is made of a second swellable material that can swell when contacted with second fluid. The first swellable material, the second swellable material, or both, include an elastomer that is compounded with an aqueous inverse emulsion of particles of a polymer comprising a betaine group. The elastomer is able to swell when contacted by hydrocarbons and saline aqueous fluids.

System and method for improving zonal isolation in a well

Compositions for well cementing comprise a pumpable slurry of cement, water and at least one additive that swells in contact with an underground fluid (hydrocarbon, water or brines or mixtures thereof). In case of failure of the cement matrix after setting, the additive swells when contacted by the underground fluid and restores zonal isolation. The swelling additive is an elastomer compounded with an aqueous inverse emulsion of particles of a polymer comprising a betaine group.

Compositions and methods for servicing subterranean wells

A composition for repairing voids or cracks in a cement sheath or plug comprises an aqueous epoxy resin, a hardener, an alkali-swellable material and an aqueous carrier fluid. The particle size of the alkali-swellable material is preferably smaller than 200 nanometers, thereby allowing the composition to penetrate cracks as small as 60 micrometers. A method for repairing voids or cracks in a cement sheath, thereby restoring zonal isolation, comprises preparing the composition, injecting the composition into voids or cracks in a cement sheath or plug and allowing the composition to viscosify and harden.

Aqueous resin compositions and methods for cement repair

Fluid compositions containing a silica-particle suspension with no intrinsic cementitious properties may be pumped into a wellbore. Upon making downhole contact with previously placed well cements from primary-cementing or previous remedial-cementing operations, the silica suspension reacts to form a gel that seals voids, cracks or fissures in the cement sheath. Portland cement is the preferred cement with which the silica-particle suspensions interact downhole.

The invention provides a system comprising: a tubular containing a first surface comprising a coating made of a first swellable material coating said first surface, wherein said coating has a second surface and said first swellable material is able to swell in contact with a first fluid on said second surface; and a composition made of a settable material and a second swellable material able to swell in contact with a second fluid. The invention also discloses the method associated with the use of such a system.
