An oil supply system for supplying oil to a lubricating cavity of a gas turbine engine, the oil supply system has: a de-oiler having a de-oiler air-oil inlet, a de-oiler oil outlet hydraulically connected to the lubricating cavity, and a de-oiler air outlet in fluid flow communication with an environment outside of the oil supply system; and a closed-loop oil circuit including a main pump having a main pump inlet and a main pump outlet, the main pump outlet hydraulically connected to the lubricating cavity, a de-aerator having a de-aerator inlet hydraulically connected to a scavenge outlet of the lubricating cavity, a de-aerator air-oil outlet in fluid flow communication with the de-oiler inlet, and a de-aerator oil outlet hydraulically connected to the main pump inlet.

Oil distribution system for gas turbine engine

There is disclosed an air-oil separator for a gas turbine engine. The separator has a first separator section having a first separator rotatably mounted about a rotation axis and having an air-oil mixture inlet and an air-oil mixture outlet; a second separator section having a second separator rotatable about the rotation axis, the second separator having a first air-oil mixture inlet fluidly connected to the air-oil mixture outlet of the first separator, and a second air-oil mixture inlet; and an air outlet. A first flow path extends from the first air-oil mixture inlet to the air outlet through the two separator sections, and a second flow path extends from the second air-oil mixture inlet to the air outlet, solely through the second separator section A method of operating an air-oil separator is also disclosed.

Air-oil separator with two flow paths

There is disclosed a separator having a first separator and a matrix separator. The first separator caters to an air-oil mixture having a first oil concentration and the matrix separator caters to an air-oil mixture having a second oil concentration being less than the first oil concentration. The matrix separator is disposed at least partially concentrically within the first separator. A wall is disposed radially between the first and second separators. A radial passage extends through the wall. An air-oil mixture outlet of the first separator is fluidly connected to an air-oil mixture inlet of the matrix separator via the radial passage. At least one passage extends radially outwardly from the matrix separator across the first separator. The at least one passage fluidly connects the matrix separator to an environment outside the air-oil separator. A method of removing oil from an air-oil mixture is also disclosed.

Air-oil separator with first separator radially outward of matrix separator

An aircraft engine lubrication system has a vortex separator, a first pump line having a first pump, an inlet connected to a separated lubricant area at the outlet end of the separator, and an outlet connectable to the engine. A scavenge line is provided for returning lubricant from the engine to an inlet end of the separator. A lubricant tank is connected in fluid flow communication with the separator by a connection line. A second pump line having a second pump has an inlet connected to the lubricant tank and an outlet connected to the separator for pumping lubricant from the tank to the inlet end of the separator.

Lubrication system and method, and vortex flow separator for use therewith

A lubrication system for lubricating gas turbine engine components and accessory components separately comprises first and second lubricant circulating circuits for separately feeding lubricant to the engine components and the accessory components. The system further includes a supply tank with first and second separate chambers respectively connected in fluid flow communication with the first and second lubricant circulating circuits. A filler port is defined in the tank for allowing the first chamber to be filled with lubricant. A filling and level maintaining circuit is connected to the first lubricant circulating circuit for directing a portion of the lubricant fluid pumped from the first chamber into the second chamber, thereby obviating the need for a second filler port.

Dual independent tank and oil system with single port filling

A centrifugal separator for separating oil suspended in air and especially intended for use with aircraft engines includes a rotatable chamber filled with a relatively rigid porous material and is driven by a hollow shaft. An inlet for the mixture of air and oil is provided in one end wall of the chamber and separate outlets for oil and air are provided in the outer and inner cylindrical walls of the chamber respectively. Oil droplets are formed in the rigid porous material and ejected out through the oil outlet under centrifugal forces while air relatively free from oil exits the air outlet and enters into the inside of the hollow shaft under the pressure difference. A cut-away area is formed in the rigid porous material to facilitate ejection from the separator of the oil droplets formed in the porous material to clear the passages of the porous material and facilitate a continuous movement of the mixture of air and oil mist.

Air/oil separator

A system for delivering a pressurized lubricant fluid from a stationary source to an interior of a drive shaft of a gas turbine engine which rotates at high speed and operates at high temperatures, includes a pair of axially spaced-apart seals that surround the shaft. The pressurized lubricant fluid is delivered to a radial passage defined between the seals. To ensure reliable operation under the high speed and high temperature conditions, the seals are constructed so that a film of the lubricant fluid is formed between the rotating shaft and the seals. The seals float on the film and wear is reduced. In order to minimize variations in the space between the seals and the shaft caused by changes in operating temperatures, each seal is surrounded by a control ring of material having a coefficient of expansion similar to the material of the shaft. The advantage is reliable delivery of lubricant to a shaft rotating at high speed in a high temperature environment.
