A vulcanized rubber is formed by a method comprising blending a halogenated unsaturated polymer into a rubber comprised of cis 1-4 polyisoprene to form a vulcanizable polymer blend, adding a vulcanization material to the vulcanizable polymer blend, and vulcanizing the vulcanizable polymer blend to form a homogeneous vulcanized rubber. The method may be used to form a vulcanized rubber comprised of polyisoprene uniformly crosslinked with a halogenated unsaturated polymer that is a reaction product of (i) an unsaturated polymer miscible with polyisoprene and having conjugated dienes that undergo a Diels Alder reaction and (ii) a polyhalogenated cyclopentadiene.

An improved silane modified polymer useful in adhesive compositions is made from a silane precursor material made by a process comprising reacting an organic compound having a backbone that is terminated by an amino group having at least one active amino hydrogen and a hydrolysable silane, wherein the backbone is comprised of at least one secondary amino group having one active amino hydrogen and a Michael addition acceptor compound, wherein the Michael addition compound fails to have a group reactive with an isocyanate group to form the silane precursor compound. The silane precursor compound is reacted with an isocyanate terminated polyurethane prepolymer to form a silane modified prepolymer. The silane modified prepolymer may then be cured with moisture and may be employed in an adhesive composition containing other components such as a plasticizer, catalyst and filler.

Silyl terminated prepolymers, method for making them and adhesive compositions made therefrom

The invention is an adhesive composition comprising a silyl terminated prepolymer having a number molecular weight average (Mn) of about 8,000 to about 80,000 g/mole, a filler, and a silanol condensation reaction catalyst. The silyl terminated prepolymer is comprised of a polymeric backbone of alkylene oxide and at least three urethane groups and at least two terminal groups comprised of a silicon atom having at least two alkoxy silane groups, wherein each silicon atom in the terminal groups is separated from the urethane groups in the polymeric backbone by an amount of alkylene oxide that has a molecular weight of 200 to 15,000 g/mole.

Two component polyurethane adhesives contain (a) at least one alkyl-substituted 4,4'-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane wherein each cyclohexyl group is alkyl-substituted in at least one position ortho to the amino group, (b) at least one 2,4&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane or 2,2&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane, (c) a mixture of (ii) at least one alkyl-substituted 4,4&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane wherein each cyclohexyl group is alkyl-substituted and (ii) at least one 2,4&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane and/or 2,2&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane, or (d) a mixture of 40 to 99.9% by weight (a), (b) or (c) with 0.1 to 60% by weight of at least one unsubstituted 4,4&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkane, The adhesives also contain one or more polyols, in which at least 50% of the hydroxyl groups are secondary hydroxyls. These adhesive provide a useful combination of long open time and excellent sag resistance.

Polyurethane adhesives containing alkyl-substituted 4,4'-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkanes, 2,4&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)alkanes and/or 2,2&#x2032;-di(aminocyclohexyl)amines

An additive (and methods for a coating composition that includes at least one an agent for improving the performance of the coating composition, selected from a Michael addition product of siloxane further containing one or more active hydrogen containing functional moieties with two or more acrylate groups; a high molecular weight adduct having multiple alkoxysilane moieties; a compound including at least one terminal unsaturation and multiple alkoxysilyl groups; an organometallic compound that includes an element selected from silicon, titanium, zirconium, aluminum, or any combination thereof.

Adhesion promotion additives and methods for improving coating compositions

A two-part polyurethane adhesive system includes a resin component A and a curative B. The resin component A includes a monomeric polyisocyanate and a prepolymer. The curative B includes a of ether polyol having a molecular weight of from 3000 to 20,000 and another polyol having 4-8 hydroxyl groups and a molecular weight of from 200 to 1000. The system includes a tin (IV) catalyst, which is contained in the resin component, and a blocked aza-type catalyst, which is contained in the curative. The system has excellent shelf stability, gives an excellent open time at ambient temperatures, and cures rapidly when heated to 65&#xb0; C. or higher.

Embodiments of the invention include insulated units and methods of producing the insulating units. The insulating units include a first surface, a structural seal disposed on at least portions of the first surface, and a second surface disposed on the structural seal. The present invention relates to methods for attaching a plastic component to another component where the plastic component is bonded to the other component with an adhesive in the absence of a primer on the plastic component and the adhesive is substantially solvent free. In one embodiment, a coated transparent or translucent polycarbonate substrate is connected to a frame with a polyurethane adhesive containing silicon in the absence of a primer on the substrate; or with a substantially solvent free adhesive. The inventions also related to bonded articles made according to the disclosed methods.
