An orthogonally polarized Yagi-like MIMO antenna system and a triangular printed wideband Yagi based MIMO antenna system, respectively, and methods for making the antennas. The orthogonally polarized Yagi-like MIMO antenna system includes two slot round loop elements on a top side of a substrate. Each slot round loop element has two input ports and two slot reflectors. For each slot round loop element, one of the two input ports is placed orthogonally to the other input port, and one of the two slot reflectors is placed orthogonally to the other slot reflector. The triangular printed wideband Yagi based MIMO antenna system includes three round loop elements on a top side of a substrate and a circular reflector on a bottom side of the substrate. Each of the three round loop elements is placed at 120&#xb0; with respect to other two round loop elements and has three parasitic directors.

Multi-beam Yagi-based MIMO antenna system

A miniature antenna device includes a dielectric substrate having an upper side and an opposing lower side and at least one antenna element. The antenna element includes a first half-loop conductor strip disposed on the upper side of the substrate and a second half-loop conductor strip disposed on the lower side of the substrate. The first and second half-loop conductor strips are aligned complementarily one with the other to have a common center of curvature that is void of a ground plane. The antenna element further includes a director element disposed on the upper side of the substrate and spanning the first and second half-loop conductor strips, an input terminal disposed on the upper side of the substrate being electrically coupled to the first half-loop conductor strip, and a ground plane disposed on the lower side of the substrate being electrically coupled to the second half-loop conductor strip.

Miniaturized UWB bi-planar Yagi-based MIMO antenna system

A compact, low profile, Yagi-based MIMO antenna for small form factor devices including mobile phones and other compact wireless devices. The antenna has a dielectric substrate and an electrically conductive ground plane that acts as a reflector. A driven element and director are on the substrate. In one embodiment, the driven element is an arcuate semi-loop connected to meandered legs and the director element is arcuate, both printed on the substrate. In another embodiment, the driven element is a semi-loop and the director is rectangular, both etched from the ground plane. In both embodiments, a transmission line conveys RF power to the antenna to excite the driven element. Two of the antennas can be mounted side-by-side on a substrate to form a dual-antenna system, and two of the antenna systems can be placed in a tablet or the like.
