The present invention relates to hard surface cleaning compositions, and their use. It is an object of the present invention to provide a hard surface cleaning composition providing hygiene to a hard surface, whilst being easily positioned onto a hard surface; even a wet surface. The present invention provides a hard surface cleaning composition, which is at least partially transparent or translucent, characterized in that it comprises a surfactant system forming a liquid crystalline phase in the presence of water and biocide material.

A mild toilet bar composition contains C8-C18 mono and diacyl isethionates in a specified ratio in a first preferred embodiment of the invention and a specified ratio of calcium and magnesium diacyl isethionates in a second preferred embodiment of the invention. Both toilet bars provide substantial lather, mild cleansing, low mush and wear rate levels during use.

A stress-release mold is described for casting thermosetting compositions especially compositions designed for consumer use. At least one wall of the mold includes a stress-releasing-element characterized by having a more flexible region or regions than the remaining wall or walls of the mold and wherein the stress-releasing-element includes a region of lower curvature at least partially surrounded by a region of higher curvature. The stress-release mold greatly reduces or eliminates surface defects caused by shrinkage of thermosetting compositions as they cools. A system is also described that includes the inventive mold containing a thermosetting composition wherein the mold also serves as all or part of the package for the composition.

A combination toilet bar composition is described that contains soap, both amphoteric, and synthetic anionic surfactants in a specified ratio and a blend of hydrophobic emollients including a hydrocarbon with a titer of less than about 50 C. The toilet bar provides mild cleansing, moisturization, and creamy lather during use.

Toilet bar compositions are described that contain specific odor masking agent(s). The odor masking agent(s) reduce malodor without the need for elevated amounts of masking fragrances that individuals may not prefer and who use the composition for personal cleansing or who are exposed to the composition.

A low water content cleansing composition in toilet bar form is described which includes high levels of emollients having a melting point below 25 C., 12-hydroxystearic acid as a structuring agent, and at least one detersive surfactant. Useful emollients that are liquid at room temperature may include triglycerides, petroleum oil, polyhydric alcohols and silicone oil, and are present in a concentration range of 5 to 60 wt. %. The inventive toilet bars have excellent mush and wear properties.

A multi-phase solid toilet article whose phases are separated by a membrane, and processes for making the article are described. Each phase is reproducibly fabricated to form an article allowing the user to sequentially or simultaneously derive benefits from the different materials contained in the article's layers. The membrane is either at least partially water soluble or dispersible in the case of a product used with water, or shearable in the case of a cosmetic product which is applied directly to or rubbed on the skin. The membrane material is selected to dissolve or disintegrate with product use, so as to accomplish its intended function of separating the different cosmetic materials until they are consumed. The flowable toilet or cosmetic formulations are simultaneously or separately transferred into the mold, simultaneously or separately allowed to harden, where the membrane divider is not removed and becomes a part of the finished product. The hardened multi-phase article is finally ejected from the mold.

Multi-phase toilet articles and methods for their manufacture

A cleansing bar composition is described comprising an anionic surfactant, a C6 to C18 free fatty acid, and a fatty alcohol having a melting point under about 35&deg;C.  and optionally a hydrophobic emollient. Useful emolients include triglycerides, hydrocarbons, silicones, fatty esters, and mixtures thereof. Useful anionic surfactants include C8 to C18 alkali metal acyl isethionates. Suitable low melting fatty alcohols include lauryl alcohol, oleyl alcohol, and a mixture thereof. The inventive bars have excellent mush, lather and wear properties.

The present invention relates to a multiphase cleansing bar having a plurality of phases of cleansing material. Adjacent phases preferably have different concentration levels of benefit components respectively and all the phases individually preferably have a substantially similar cleansing base consisting of a syndet base, a soap base, or mixtures thereof. These benefit components are emollients, moisturizers, nutrients, anti-aging materials etc. Segregation of the benefit rich component is expected to result in improved deposition of the benefit components on the skin during the product application, which improves the moisture barrier properties of the skin. Chemical and Theological compatibility between the phases is maximized and recycling of the product during production is facilitated with the use of a uniform cleansing base. Methods of producing the inventive bar by extruding and melt casting are also disclosed.

Personal washing bar having adjacent emollient rich and emollient poor phases

A multi-phase melt cast toilet bar which has at least one interface along a plane perpendicular to the plane formed by the x and y-axis of said bar, and a process of making the bar is described. Each phase, containing a cleansing agent, is reproducibly positioned in the bar to be used simultaneously thereby allowing the user to simultaneously derive benefits from the use of the cleansing agents contained in the bar's layers. The process for making the bar is a continuous one, whereby the molten cleansing agents are simultaneously or separately poured into the mold, simultaneously or separately allowed to harden, and where the mold divider is not removed or removed either after hardening of the adjacent molten cleansing agent but before the pouring of the next molten cleansing agent, or removed while at least one phase remains flowable. The hardened multi-phase toilet bar is finally ejected from the mold.
