Embodiments herein relate to polyacrylic acid containing lubricious coatings for medical devices. In an embodiment, a lubricious coated medical device is included having a substrate and a first layer disposed over the substrate. The first layer can include a photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone, a non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone, and a crosslinking compound. A second layer can be disposed over the first layer, the second layer can include a poly(acrylic acid), and a non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone. The non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone of the second layer forms a complex with the poly(acrylic acid) of the second layer. The non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone of the second layer has a concentration existing as a gradient through a thickness of the second layer with a lower concentration at an outer surface of the second layer than at an inner surface of the second layer. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Polyacrylic acid containing lubricious coatings for medical devices with enhanced properties

A system for detecting an anomalous event in a person includes a body in contact with a skin surface of a person; a heat source for heating the skin surface to a target temperature; a skin temperature sensor for measuring a temperature of the skin surface in contact with the heat source; a blood volume sensor for measuring a blood volume of the skin surface; and a hardware processor communicatively coupled to the heat source, the blood volume sensor, the skin temperature sensor, and an environmental temperature sensor. The hardware processor is configured to receive a baseline blood volume signal, output a heating signal to the heat source to initiate a heating cycle, receive a second blood volume signal from the blood volume sensor, compare the second blood volume signal to the baseline blood volume signal, and determine whether an anomalous biologic event has occurred.

Systems and methods for multivariate stroke detection

Disclosed are coating compositions, processes, and designs for endowing vascular devices with thromboresistant and endothelializing properties. Also disclosed are designs of vascular devices used as aneurysm treating devices for assisting in the delivery, packing, and maintenance of embolization coils within an aneurysm, particularly a neurovascular aneurysm.

Thromboresistant coatings for aneurysm treatment devices

A medical device includes a polymer stent (or scaffold) crimped to a catheter balloon. The stent, after being expanded from a crimped state by the balloon, provides a crush recovery of about 90% of its expanded diameter after being pinched or crushed by an amount equal to about 50% of the expanded diameter. The stent has a pattern including a W-shaped or W-V shaped closed cell and links connecting the closed cells.

Balloon expanded polymer stent

A medical device includes a polymer scaffold crimped to a catheter having an expansion balloon. The scaffold has a structure that produces a low late lumen loss when implanted within a peripheral vessel and also exhibits a high axial fatigue life. In a preferred embodiment the scaffold forms ring structures interconnected by links, where a ring has 12 crowns and at most two links connecting adjacent rings.

Methods for vascular restoration therapy

A method of accelerated aging of bioresorbable polymer scaffolds including exposing the scaffold to water is disclosed. The scaffold is exposed to water at a controlled temperature for a selected aging time. The functional outputs, such as radial strength, expandability, and % recoil obtained from aged scaffolds predict those of real-time aging of the scaffold. The accelerated aging factor, which is the required shelf life divided by the aging time, is significantly higher for poly(L-lactide) scaffolds tested than thermal aging.

Virtual reality system and method improve clinical outcomes. The virtual reality system includes a virtual display device capable of providing virtual reality images to a patient; one or more actuators capable of providing physical experience to the patient; and a controller. The controller is capable of: automatically selecting a treatment model based upon one or both of (a) a received identity of a medical treatment applied to the patient and (b) a received identity of a targeted disease of the patient; and coordinating the virtual display device and the one or more actuators to provide a synchronized immersive virtual reality environment for the patient to experience based upon the treatment model.

Virtual reality systems and methods for improving clinical outcomes

Methods of treating a diseased blood vessel exhibiting stenosis with a bioabsorbable stent are disclosed. The implanted stent supports the section of the vessel at an increased diameter for a period of time to allow the vessel to heal. The stent loses radial strength sufficient to support the section of the vessel in less than 6 months after implantation, loses mechanical integrity, and then erodes away from the section. The biodegradable stent results in changes in properties of plaque with time as the stent degrades. The time-dependent properties include the luminal area of the plaque and plaque geometric morphology parameters.

Bioabsorbable stent and treatment that elicits time-varying host-material response

A method of crimping a stent is disclosed. The stent includes a minimum crimped diameter such that in the minimum crimped diameter, a pair of stent rings, between which marker support structures reside, do not make contact with the marker support structures. The crimped profile of the stent of the present invention can be as small as the crimped profile of a same stent but without the maker support structures.

Method of crimping stent on catheter delivery assembly

A stent or scaffold has a tapered end or ends. The scaffold is made using an additive manufacturing technique such as stereolithography (SLA). The scaffold may take the shape of a frustum, or a scaffold having one or both of its ends flared. The scaffold has varying mechanical properties over its length, such as a varying ring stiffness, porosity or elasticity modulus. In one embodiment the strut and link widths change linearly from the distal to proximal ends.

Tapered scaffolds

A scaffold is formed by several segments joined or connected to each other by only at least one coupling. The coupling decouples the segments in the axial direction over a finite distance of axial displacement. The scaffold when implanted in a peripheral vessel reduces loading on rings of a segment due to the decoupling of the segments in the axial direction over the finite distance.
