There is provided a communications system () comprising a plurality of base stations (), a central station () and a fiber optic communications network (). Each base station () comprises a shelter () for a passenger awaiting transport, the shelter () having a wireless network access point (). The central station () is arranged to facilitate communication between each base station () and a communications network () and the fiber optic communications network () is arranged to facilitate communication between each base station () and the central station ().

Communications system

A system for supplying energy is provided. The system comprises a shelter for users of an outdoor recreational area. The shelter has a roof portion and photovoltaic cells disposed on the roof portion, the photovoltaic cells being arranged to convert solar energy into electrical energy. The system also comprises an energy distribution system arranged to receive converted electrical energy from the photovoltaic cells, and to receive grid electrical energy from a power distribution network. The energy distribution system is arranged to provide converted electrical energy to an electrically powered component of the system at times when there is sufficient converted electrical energy to power the component, and to provide grid electrical energy to the component at times when there is insufficient converted electrical energy to power the component.

Solar energy station and application

A system () for generating a millimeter wave signals from heterodyning wavelengths from a multi-wavelength signal generated by a Brillouin-Erbium fiber laser (). The Brillouin-Erbium fiber laser () includes a source laser () that transmits a seed signal. An optical directional coupler () has a first input that receives the seed signal from the source laser and a first output. An Erbium doped fiber amplifier () has an input connected to the first output of the optical directional coupler and an output. The Erbium doped fiber amplifier amplifies the seed signal. A four port circulator () has a first port that receives the seed signal from the Erbium doped fiber amplifier. A Brillouin gain medium () is connected to a second port and a third port of the circulator. The seed signal propagates through the Brillouin gain medium in a first direction and a first order Stokes signal propagates through the Brillouin gain medium in a second direction to generate a second order Stokes signal propagating in the first direction. A fourth port of the circulator is connected to a second input of the optical directional coupler. The optical directional coupler receives the signal from the fourth port of the circulator and outputs a portion of the signal to a first output and a second portion to a second output of the optical directional coupler. Two wavelengths from the second output are then received by a photodiode () that heterodynes the signal to generate a millimeter wave signal.

All-optical generation of 60 GHz millimeter wave using multiple wavelength Brillouin-Erbium fiber laser

An apparatus and method for generating a millimeter-wave carrier signal for optical data transmission is disclosed. The apparatus includes stimulated Brillouin scattering source () that generates a variable stoke line multi-wavelength optical signal, optical amplifiers (), an optical splitter () that splits the amplified output of the SBS source () into two identical optical signals of the same magnitude, frequency, phase and electromagnetic mode, identical optical tuneable band-pass filters () with the same band-pass, an optical coupler () that combines the optical signals emitted from the output of the optical filters () such that the output of the coupler () is a dual wavelength optical signal with a wavelength separation equivalent to the desired millimeter wave frequency, a photo-detector () that converts the optical signal to an electrical signal by heterodyning process, and a controller circuit () that controls the gain of the optical amplifiers (), the tuning of the optical band-pass filters () independently and the number of stoke lines produced by the stimulated Brillouin scattering source () depending on the electrical millimeter wave output.
