A device () for driving tunnels, galleries or the like including a cutting head (), wherein an excavating direction of the cutting head () being essentially at a right angle to said rotation axis (R), a base unit () with stabilizing units (S, S, S, S) for applying and fixing against rock surfaces, a support unit () for the cutting head (), a joint device () for pivotal connection of the support unit to the base unit, forcing means () arranged between the base unit and the support unit for swinging the cutting head. The joint device () is arranged for vertical as well as for horizontal swinging of the support unit () in respect of the base unit (), wherein the support unit () is vertically as well as horizontally swingable by means of a pair of upper fluid cylinders () and a pair of lower fluid cylinders () comprising said forcing means.

Device and method for driving tunnels, galleries or the like

A method for driving tunnels, galleries, shafts or the like with a driving device (), including: that a cutting head () rotating around a general axis of rotation (R) and having cutting elements directed essentially radially outwardly is applied against a rock surface to be worked. The rock cutting elements (), are formed on cutting rolls () are brought to roll against the rock side during pressing against the rock and rotation of the cutting head (), and the rock cutting elements during rolling are brought to cut sidewardly arranged grooves in the rock surface at a distance from each other. The invention also concerns a rotatable cutting head and a device and a rig for driving tunnels, galleries, shafts or the like.

Method and device for working rock

A method and rig for driving tunnels, galleries, shafts or the like. The rig has a movable base unit that over a support unit supports a carrying unit which in turn carries a cutting head having outwardly directed cutting elements. The method includes rotating the cutting head around a general axis of rotation and applying the cutting head against a rock surface to be worked. The carrying unit is swung into a first chosen mutual position in respect of the support unit. The support unit is rotated into a second chosen mutual position with respect to the base unit around an axis that is essentially longitudinal with respect to the base unit. An angle of operation of the cutting head is controllable.

A boring rig () for underground boring for excavating purposes and including a substructure (), a propulsion device, a stabilizing device (), and a boring unit () having a cutter head () and a rotation and forcing device (), in which the rig has a first direction of general travel and two sideways directions, and in which the boring unit () is pivotally attached to the substructure for pivotal movement of the boring unit into an operating direction. The stabilizing device includes horizontal () and vertical () stabilizing elements that are attached to the substructure () in order, in active positions, to be pressed against an adjacent rock face so as to transmit forces from the boring unit (), that are occurring during boring, to the rock face.

The machine housing (12) is provided with a projecting part in front of the boring head (13), said projecting part comprising a part (20) being fixed relative to the machine housing and a shield (19) being separable from the fixed part. This arrangement permits substantially uninterrupted excavation of the tunnel and prevents the excavated soil from becoming wedged between the boring head and the tunnel front.
