Electrically conductive and infrared-reflecting tin oxide layers with a reduced optical irisation intensity on glass, glass ceramic and enamel are produced in that initially a solution of boron, silicon, tin and optionally phosphorus compounds in water and/or organic solvents is applied and converted pyrolytically into a layer of oxides of these elements, the refractive index of which lies between that of the substrate to be coated and that of the tin oxide layer and on this layer, a tin oxide layer is applied pyrolytically in a known manner.

The invention relates to monobutyltin trichloride which, as a stabilizer, comprises one or more glycerol esters of optionally unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acids having 1 to 18 carbon atoms.

A method is described for the preparation of electrically conductive, infrared-reflecting layers on glass, glass-ceramic or enamel surfaces by spraying and thermally decomposing liquid Sn(IV) compounds and fluorine compounds as preparations containing doping agents on to the surface heated to 400.degree. to 800.degree. C., yet below their softening point, wherein, as liquid preparations, ionically stabilized, organic tin(IV) acid sols are used, which contain aliphatic alcohols or ketones with, in each case, at most 6 carbon atoms in the molecule or esters with a boiling point below 180.degree. C. as liquid, organic medium, as well as fluoride ions in an adequate amount for doping. The preparations are homogenous, stable for a long time, and can readily be diluted with alcohols, ketones, and other polar solvents. The tin oxide layers, produce with the preparations on the substrates, have a high transparency in the wavelength of visible light, a low surface resistance and a high reflection in the infrared wavelength region.

Method for the preparation of electrically conductive

The invention relates to compounds of the general formula SnR.sup.1.sub.a R.sup.2.sub.b R.sup.3.sub.c, in which R.sup.1 is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is an acetate group, R.sup.3 is a trifluoroacetate group, a has a value of 1 or 2, b has a value of 1 or 2 and c has a value of 1 or 2, with the proviso that the sum of a+b+c=4. The invention also relates to a method for the synthesis of these compounds and to a material for producing electrically conductive and infrared-reflective fluorine-doped tin oxide layers on glass, glass ceramic and/or enamel surfaces, the material containing tin compounds of the formula SnR.sup.1.sub.a R.sup.2.sub.b R.sup.3.sub.c or mixtures of these tin compounds, the mixture corresponding to the general formula SnR.sup.1.sub.x R.sup.2.sub.y R.sup.3.sub.z, wherein x has a numerical value of 1 to 2, y a numerical value of 0.1 to 2.9 and z a numerical value of 0.1 to 2.9, the sum of x+y+z being 4, dissolved in a polar organic solvent.
