The approach involves retrieving map data covering an upcoming area in which a vehicle is to travel. The approach also involves extracting a feedforward cue from the map data, wherein the feedforward cue preemptively indicates an upcoming vehicle event that can have an effect on an experience that a user has while engaged in a non-driving activity in the vehicle. The approach further involves providing data for presenting the feedforward cue in a user interface before the upcoming vehicle event occurs.

The method further comprises receiving a user selection of one of the one or more cartographic elements via the display unit. An approach is provided for proactive booking of a shared vehicle. A routing platform determines that a user is leaving a location for a destination. The routing platform calculates a probability that the user will use a transport mode employing the shared vehicle for a route segment to the destination based on a context and a profile of the user. The routing platform initiates a creation of a proactive reservation of the shared vehicle based on determining that the probability meets or exceeds a threshold value. The proactive reservation is created without intervention of the user.

Various embodiments of the present invention relate to providing an audible route sequence for guiding a user along a route. A user apparatus determines a user location, distance and directional aspects for one or more waypoint of the route, and a cadence. A distance aspect of a waypoint is a distance between the waypoint and the user location. A directional aspect of a waypoint is the angle between a reference heading and straight line connecting the waypoint to the user location. The cadence is determined based on the distance between consecutive waypoints. The user apparatus determines a route sequence based on the distance and directional aspects for the waypoints and the cadence. The route sequence comprises a sequence of audible pitches that each correspond to a waypoint of the route. The user apparatus causes the route sequence to be audibly provided via a sound device.

An approach is provided for providing a dynamic virtual connection through a shared vehicle. A routing platform determines a dynamic location of a shared vehicle. The dynamic location is updated. The routing platform further creates a dynamic virtual connection between two or more fixed transportation stations. The dynamic virtual connection provides a route that connects the two or more fixed transportation stations with a route segment using the shared vehicle, and the dynamic virtual connection is updated as the dynamic location of the shared vehicle is updated. The routing platform further provides data for presenting a representation of the dynamic virtual connection in a mapping user interface.

The method comprises identifying an access point in the parking facility suitable to be utilized by the user. A system may include a memory configured to store computer program code instructions; and a processor configured to execute the computer program code instructions to receive service boundary geometry data for a service boundary from one or more shared vehicle service providers; provide on-street parking predictions, based on the received service boundary geometry data; and render a representation of the on-street parking predictions on a user interface of a user device. The routing algorithm may compute a route through the most suitable clusters of available parking spaces based on favorable criteria such as distance, availability, and desirability.
