A joint for panels, the panels comprising a core, a decorative upper surface and edges provided with joining means for positioning the panels towards one another. Predetermined portions of the edges are provided with a layer of polymer. The panels are joined to one another by use of the joining means where the polymer forms a seal in the joint preventing penetration of water into the joint wherein a highly water resistant unit of a plurality of panels is formed.

The invention relates to a joint cover assembly for covering a gap between two floor elements covering a subsurface, the assembly comprising a first molding element comprising an upper section having an exposed surface, the exposed surface comprising a d&#xe9;cor, and a foot depending therefrom, wherein the foot has a gripping groove extending towards the exposed surface and being defined by two side walls; and a second molding element comprising an upper surface and a lower surface, to be joined to the first molding element, as well as an exposed surface comprising a d&#xe9;cor, wherein the lower surface has a groove extending towards the upper surface and being defined by two side walls; characterized in that the joint cover assembly furthermore comprises a track having two upstanding sections, wherein the distance between the upstanding sections corresponds substantially to the width of the foot and also to the distance between a gripping groove's side wall and a proximal side wall of the second molding element's groove. Furthermore, the invention relates to a kit comprising such joint cover assembly. Finally, the invention relates to a method of covering a sub floor adjacent a floor element by using this joint cover assembly or this kit.

A thin decorative thermosetting laminate of postforming quality is glued to a longitudinal carrier to form a floor strip. The laminate has a thermosetting resin as well as hard particles impregnated therein to increase the abrasion resistance of the laminate. The carrier generally has a cross section of a dilatation, transition or a finishing profile, depending on the intended use of the floor strip. The floor strip has a tab portion on a surface that engages a channel on a floor tile or a reducer. The tab portion locks the floor strip into place and prevents movement of the floor tile or the reducer with respect to the floor strip.

The flooring system comprises a plurality of panels where each panel is provided with an upper decorative surface. The flooring system comprises panels with at least two of decorative surfaces selected from the group consisting of: a thermosetting composite, a thermoplastic composite. an elastomeric foil, a thermoplastic foil, a metal sheet, a fabric, a mineral and a mineral composite.

The invention is a joint cover assembly for covering a gap adjacent an edge of a panel that covers a sub-surface, and a method of covering such a gap. The assembly can be manipulated to form an end molding, a T-molding, a hard surface reducer, a carpet reducer, and/or a stair nose molding.

Means for installation of panels, the panels comprising a core, a decorative upper surface and edges provided with joining means for positioning the panels towards one another. Predetermined portions of the edges are provided with an encapsulated agent which is made present on the edges of the surface elements before assembly and which encapsulation is ruptured by means of assembly making the agent available to the core. The surface elements are hereby joined to one another by use of the joining means wherein a unit of a plurality of surface elements is formed.

A ventilated quarter round molding or shoe molding can be used, in combination with a water impervious underlayment to dissipate water vapor which is often generated from subfloors. Such water vapor can damage certain flooring, and the invention allows for the installation of devices to limit or eliminate such damage without significant cost.
