A reactor system includes a fixed bed reactor that treats a lipid feedstock using a metal oxide catalyst to produce a treated stream comprising a bio-oil. The reactor system includes a ketopyrolyis zone in which the metal oxide catalyst reacts with the lipid feedstock to produce the treated stream. The reactor system can operate in a reaction mode, during which the reactor treats the lipid feedstock, and a regeneration mode, during which coke is burned from the metal oxide catalyst.

Fixed bed lipid conversion with catalyst regeneration

A reactor system includes a reactor that treats a lipid feedstock using a metal oxide catalyst to produce a treated stream comprising a bio-oil. The metal oxide catalyst includes catalyst particles having a diameter of 0.01 to 0.5 mm. The metal oxide catalyst can comprise calcium on alumina. The bio-oil has an increased proportion of transportation fuels relative to other techniques for processing lipid feedstocks.

Catalyst selection for improved lipid feedstock conversion

In one embodiment the application pertains to a process which provides longer chain and less isomerized (more linear molecules). A propylene-derived olefin mixture is reacted under suitable conditions to form a mixture of oligomers in the presence of a catalyst comprising alkyl aluminum halide complex. A suitable alkyl aluminum halide complex comprises ethyl aluminum dichloride bis(2-chloroethyl) ether complex which may be used with a tert-butyl chloride or other initiator.

Propylene oligomerization processes with enhanced olefinic yields

A reactor system includes a reactor that treats a lipid feedstock using a metal oxide catalyst to produce a treated stream comprising a bio-oil. The reactor system includes a catalyst zone in which the metal oxide catalyst reacts with the lipid feedstock to produce the treated stream. The reactor system operates in a reaction mode, during which the lipid feedstock flows in a downward direction through the metal oxide catalyst to produce the treated stream. Alternately, the reactor also operates in a regeneration mode, during which coke is burned from the metal oxide catalyst thereby regenerating the metal oxide catalyst. In one aspect, a regeneration mode pressure is less than a reaction mode pressure within the reactor to fluidize the catalyst.

Downflow lipid conversion with upflow catalyst regeneration

Methods and systems for converting a renewable fuel intermediate composition to finished transportation fuel are provided herein. In some examples, a renewable fuel intermediate composition is flowed over a first catalyst in a first reaction zone to generate a saturated, hydrodeoxygenated product. A liquid portion of the renewable fuel intermediate composition may be characterized as having more than about 70 wt % of the oxygen being within ketone groups. The saturated, hydrodeoxygenated product may be flowed over a second fixed-bed catalyst in a second reaction zone to generate a product including the finished transportation fuel.

Converting a renewable fuel intermediate composition to finished transportation fuel

A process is provided for upgrading low value lipid feedstocks for refinery processing. The process includes (a) treating a lipid feedstock comprising at least one fatty acid with a metal oxide catalyst on an oxide support under treating conditions to produce a treated stream, wherein the treating conditions include a temperature in a range of from 400° C. to 700° C.; a pressure in a range of from 0 to 10 MPa; and a liquid hourly space velocity in a range of from 0.1 to 10 h; and (b) fractionating the treated stream to obtain a gaseous fraction and a liquid fraction comprising a bio-oil; wherein the bio-oil has a lower content of oxygen and impurities as compared to the lipid feedstock.

Upgrading of low value lipid feedstocks for refinery processing

A process involves sequentially treating a plurality of lipid feedstocks comprising a set of lipid feedstocks each having a chloride content of at least about 2 ppm with a metal oxide catalyst on an oxide support under first treating conditions to produce respective treated streams of the set of lipid feedstocks having a chloride content less than 1 ppm until a given one of the respective treated streams has a chloride content greater than 1 ppm and the metal oxide catalyst is converted to a spent metal oxide catalyst, converting the spent metal oxide catalyst to a rejuvenated metal oxide catalyst, and treating one or more additional lipid feedstocks each having a chloride content of at least about 2 ppm with the rejuvenated metal oxide catalyst under second treating conditions to produce one or more respective treated streams each having a chloride content less than 1 ppm.

ALKYL-substituted hydroxyaromatic compounds with highly structured ALKYL branches

A process involves (a) processing a lipid feedstock over a fluidized particulate catalyst in a gas-based stream in a fluid bed reactor to obtain a processed stream and spent catalyst comprising coke deposits, (b) continuously introducing the spent catalyst comprising the coke deposits to a catalyst regeneration unit, (c) continuously operating the catalyst regeneration unit to burn off the coke deposits from the spent catalyst to obtain a regenerated particulate catalyst, and (d) continuously introducing the regenerated particulate catalyst from the catalyst regeneration unit to the fluid bed reactor.

A process for producing fuel-range organic oxygen-containing compounds is provided. The process includes converting glycerol in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst. The fuel-range organic oxygen-containing compounds can be deoxygenated to produce gasoline and jet fuels or fuel blending components.
