An airbag () for a vehicle occupant restraint system includes an airbag wall () having a gas outlet opening (), and a control strap () extending through an interior of the airbag along an airbag depth (y) that is defined by a distance between two airbag wall areas (), the airbag wall areas () being situated opposite to each other and the airbag wall areas () being joined to one another by the control strap (). A wall section () is turned one of inside and outside relative to the inflated airbag (), depending on the airbag depth (y), such that, in response to a displacement of the control strap (), the airbag () can be moved from a first outer contour, in which the airbag depth (y) is large and the wall section () is turned into the interior of the airbag, to a second outer contour, in which the airbag depth (y) is smaller and the wall section () is turned outside. The airbag () has a closure () for the gas outlet opening () that is joined, on the one hand, to the control strap () and, on the other hand, to the wall section (). The closure () can be actively moved in opposite directions respectively by the control strap () and the wall section (), in order to open and close the gas outlet opening () to one of a greater and lesser extent.

Airbag for a vehicle occupant restraint system

A side impact restraint device for protection of an occupant (a;b), sitting on a vehicle seat () in a motor vehicle, includes a gas bag (). The gas bag () unfolds between a lateral structure () of the vehicle and the occupant (a;b). The gas bag has an outflow opening () which is arranged in a region () of the gas bag () facing the occupant (a:b). The vertical position of the outflow opening () is selected so that it is not covered by the upper body of a small occupant (a).

Side impact restraint device

A vehicle seat comprises a back rest and a gas bag module integrated into said back rest extending in an upward direction to have an upward extent. The gas bag module includes a gas bag and a gas generator. When installed, the gas bag is arranged within the back rest so as to be extended in the upward direction of the back rest and one of folded and rolled up transversely to the upward direction. A height of said gas bag when inflated corresponds substantially to said upward extent of the back rest.

A gas bag for a side impact protection device includes at least two inflatable chambers () separated from each other in a gas-tight manner. The gas bag () is formed from two covering layers () lying one over the other, which define an inflatable region and an inflation opening () of the gas bag (), and from a fabric layer () arranged between the two covering layers (). The fabric layer () has an outer edge which in the inflatable region of the gas bag () is connected only with one of the two covering layers () to divide the gas bag () into the two chambers ().

A vehicle seat has an upper body side protection device that is integrated in the back rest. The protection device comprises a gas bag which has an elongated, oval chamber via which, in the case of an intrusion, the force is introduced into the occupant principally in the region of the hip and the shoulder, in order to displace him in the direction towards the center of the vehicle.

The invention relates to gas bag restraint system for use in motor vehicles, the system comprising a gas bag, a cover for the gas bag, a guiding sheet metal and a deployment opening for the gas bag. Upon deployment of the gas bag the cover is swiveled outwards to uncover the deployment opening. A guiding sheet metal is provided which forms at least part of the cover and is bent during swiveling. The guiding sheet metal exerts, in a position completely swiveled, a resistance to the gas bag when deploying so as to predetermine a deployment direction of the gas bag.

Gas bag restraint system

An assembly consists of a vehicle door, an A-pillar of a vehicle and an inflatable gas bag. In the inflated condition, the gas bag is supported by the vehicle door and in the region of the A-pillar of the vehicle. The internal overpressure exceeds 10 Pa (14.5 psi) in at least one part of the inflated gas bag.
