One embodiment is a method that receives a description of services desired by a service requestor and then crawls web sites to extract information on services offered by service providers. The extracted information is used to transform the description of services desired by the service requestor into an improved description of services.

Suggesting email tags. A non-transitory machine-readable storage device includes executable instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to provide a suggestion for at least one suggested tag based on content of an email, receive a selection of a selected tag, store the email in a computer database, thus creating a stored email, and associate the selected tag with the stored email in the computer database.

An electronic document is accessed. A structural definition that defines a structural convention according to which information within the electronic document is arranged also is accessed. Based on the accessed structural definition, at least some of the information is extracted from the electronic document. A machine-understandable representation of the extracted information then is generated.

Generating machine-understandable representations of content

A system for automated contract management includes a computing device () and a memory storing program instructions that when executed by computing device (). The program instructions cause the computing device () to generate an ontology () of terms and cross-contractual relationships in contracts () and machine interpretable terms () and cross-contractual relationships () derived from the contracts () with reference to the ontology (). A method for automated contract management is also provided.

Automated contract management

A business process () having a number of computer implemented steps using software application components, to enable automatic deployment on computing infrastructure, is modelled by a management system. It automatically derives a grounded model () of the business process from an unbound model () of the business process, based on an infrastructure design template (). The unbound model specifies the application components to be used, and the grounded model adds a complete design of the computing infrastructure to be used. The use of an infrastructure design template can reduce the large number of options to be evaluated to help reduce the complexity of generating or changing the grounded model. The infrastructure design template formally relates the business process, application components and infrastructure design so that designs, or changes which are inconsistent or inefficient can be avoided. Thus more automation of the designing and changing the design is feasible.

A resource manager computer system allocates computer resources from a pool of computer resources for executing an application. A data monitoring system monitors metrics for the allocated computer resources, and a resource assessment computer system executes a control plug-in specifying a policy for determining whether to adjust the allocated computer resources based on the metrics.

A system includes a goal state repository, a goal state repository instance and management tools. The goal state repository stores goals for a managed system. The goal state repository instance stores a subset of the goals applicable to a current state of the managed system. The goal state repository instance is created by comparing the current state of the managed system to the goals stored in the goal state repository. The management tools modify the managed system to be in compliance with the subset of goals stored in the goal state repository instance.

A collaborative work environment is provided that supports collaboration among users for performance of a people service that is associated with ad-hoc activities. An information base is provided that includes information relating to responsibilities of the users and work items for the ad-hoc activities. An interactive guidance structure is presented in the collaborative environment to guide actions of the users with respect to the work items. Materials produced as a result of the actions to update the information base are collected.

Method and apparatus for matching resource capabilities of data centers to resource needs of data centers. Capability data sets received from one or more of a plurality of data centers are stored by a capability-demand advertising and matching computing arrangement for a certain time. Each capability data set identifies a data center and indicates resources available at the identified data center. Query descriptors are also stored by the computing arrangement for a certain time. Each query descriptor identifies a data center and specifies resource needs of the identified data center. The query descriptors stored at the computing arrangement are applied to each newly received capability data set. To each data center identified in a stored query descriptor that is satisfied by a newly received capability descriptor, the newly received capability data set is provided to the data center identified by the stored query descriptor. Each newly received query descriptor is applied to each capability data set stored at the computing arrangement. Each capability data set that matches the newly received query descriptor is provided to the data center identified in the newly received query descriptor.

Matching of data center resource capabilities and resource needs by match-overlapping

Terms are extracted from service description documents describing desired services, and the terms are used to search for candidate service providers operable to provide the desired services. A matrix of terms and documents are determined from the service description documents. Singular value decomposition (SVD) is used to decompose the matrix. Eigen vectors from the SVD decomposition are weighted by top k singular values in a diagonal matrix S of singular values also generated from the decomposition. The weighted eigen vectors are used to rank terms from the matrix X based on relevance of the terms to the requirements for desired services described in the service description documents.

Term extraction from service description documents

In an embodiment, a method of processing a request by a server computer system begins with a step of receiving an object. The object comprises the request, an exception criterion, and a recovery operation. The method continues with a step of determining that the server computer system is unable to fulfill the request due to an exception which meets the exception criterion. The method concludes with a step of applying the recovery operation to resolve the exception. In an embodiment, the server computer system comprises a resource management system for a shared computing environment and the object comprises a resource request object. The resource request object comprises a resource request, the exception criteria, and the recovery operation. The resource request indicates resources requested from the shared computing environment by a start time and for a time period.

Candidate service providers for a desired service are ranked. Terms describing service requirements for a desired service are determined. Service capability documents describing the services of the candidate service providers are determined using the terms describing the service requirements. Using singular value decomposition (SVD) and a metric, similarities between the terms describing the service requirements and the service capability documents are determined. The candidate service providers are ranked based on the similarities.

Rank-order service providers based on desired service properties

Resources are provisioned in an automated manner for shared services in a resource-on-demand system. A model representing an observed state of resources in the resource-on-demand system allocated to the shared services and a model representing a desired state of the shared services are stored. At least one policy applicable to provisioning the resources for the shared services is determined. The policy and information from the models are applied to automatically provision the resources for satisfying the desired state of the shared services.

Automated model-based provisioning of resources

Workload requirements for an application to be deployed in a system are received. Descriptions of resources in the system are matched with the workload requirements.
