An absorber body arranged to absorb radiation in a nuclear energy arrangement. The absorber body comprises more than one area with a locally reduced thickness.

A method for production of a nuclear fuel element with oxide base, in which the nuclear fuel with oxide base is mixed with Cr and sintered to a solid body. The amount of chrome oxide added is &equals;>50 and <100 ppm with respect to the amount of nuclear fuel with oxide base added.

In a control rod for nuclear reactors with elongated channels for boron carbide or other neutron-absorbing material which swells upon neutron irradiation, the neutron-absorbing material (20a), in at least some of the channels (18b), is provided with projecting portions (20a') or arranged in a casing with portions projecting towards the channel walls. Further, the projecting portions are adapted to form between them and the channel walls unfilled spaces (40) for taking up swelling neutron-absorbing material.

Control rod for nuclear reactors

An absorber plate designed to be located in a gap between fuel rod bundles in the core of a boiling water reactor is manufactured by anchoring a burnable neutron-absorbing material to at least one sheet by spraying the absorbing material in finely-divided melted or plastically-formable state onto the sheet, to create a solidified layer of the absorbing material, and by enclosing the absorbing material, thus anchored, in a protective casing.
