A lubricant composition is provided containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt, where at least 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure, along with either or both of a conventional phosphorous containing antiwear additive and a glycerol ester. In the phosphate amine salt, at least 80 mole percent of the alkyl groups are typically secondary alkyl groups of 3 to 12 carbon atoms. A method of improving wear over a wide temperature range in a mechanical device is also provided by employing the lubricant composition.

Method of lubricating a mechanical device with high pyrophosphate level lubricant

A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt, where at least 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure, exhibits good antiwear performance, even in the presence of corrosion inhibitor additives. In the phosphate amine salt, at least 80 mole percent of the alkyl groups are typically secondary alkyl groups of 3 to 12 carbon atoms.

Internal combustion engine lubricant

A composition is provided for use as a friction modifier for an automatic transmission, comprising a long chain hydrocarbyl amine having one or two additional groups on one or two different amine nitrogen atom thereof of the structure &#x2014;R3-C(=0)X(R4)c. R3 is an alkylene group or a group comprising a group of 1-4 carbon atoms or a chain of 2 to 9 carbon atoms interrupted by one or two nitrogen or oxygen atoms within the chain; X is nitrogen or oxygen, and R4 is a long chain hydrocarbyl group, or H, or &#x2014;R3-NHR5. The compound does not contain a primary amino group.

Amine derivatives as friction modifiers in lubricants

A composition useful for lubricating an automatic transmission comprises an oil of lubricating viscosity and a hydrocarbyl amine with a hydrocarbyl group of 12 to 22 carbon atoms and having one or two additional groups of the structure &#x2014;R&#x2014;NHC(O)R, wherein Ris an alkylene group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and Ris a hydrocarbyl group of 4 to 22 carbon atoms, or a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group, or an aminoalkyl group.

An interpolymer composition comprising monomer-derived units of (i) at least one of an aliphatic olefin containing from 2 to 30 carbon atoms and a vinyl aromatic monomer, and (ii) at least one alpha, beta-unsaturated acylating agent; wherein a portion of said acylating agent monomers is esterified and wherein a portion of said acylating agent monomers is condensed with at least one aromatic amine, provides good viscosity modification and dispersancy performance.

Dispersant viscosity modifiers based on maleic anhydride-styrene copolymers

A composition of a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; a secondary or tertiary amine being represented by the formula RRNRwherein Rand Rare alkyl groups of at least 6 carbon atoms and Ris hydrogen, a hydrocarbyl group, a hydroxyl-containing alkyl group, or an amine-containing alkyl group; and a dispersant, provides high static coefficients of friction and a durable positive slope during oxidative and mechanical stressing, particularly as a friction component of an automatic transmission.
