A neonatal feeding tube () includes electronics and instrumentation for monitoring a neonate and for provides nourishment to the neonate. The tube () includes electrodes () for sensing ECG signals of the neonate. Thermistors () are placed at various points along the tube () to measure the neonate's temperature at those points. Breathing effort is measured by calculating a pressure differential at two pressure ports (). Pulse and SpOare measured at a fiber optic window (). The electrodes (), a distal electrode () and a light source () aid in helping a caregiver position the tip () of the tube () correctly in the stomach of the neonate.

Device, apparatus and method for obtaining physiological signals by way of a feeding tube

A highly portable biometric monitor is disclosed. At least one remote sensor member () includes one or more biometric sensors () configured for operative coupling with a patient. A neck collar () includes electronics () for operating the at least one remote sensor member. The at least one remote sensor member is separate from and not disposed on the neck collar. Optionally, the collar also includes one or more biometric sensors (). A communication link () operatively connects the remote sensor member and the electronics of the neck collar. A motion sensor () and position sensor () may be disposed with the one or more biometric sensors to sense movement and position, and the electronics () configured to account for error in a signal produced by the one or more biometric sensors due to movement sensed by the motion sensor or position sensed by the position sensor. The electronics () may log patient activity and body position.
