Selective deciphering of a received signal, as taught herein, provides a number of advantages, including greater efficiency through the elimination or at least reduction of wasted decoding cycles. The technique, such as practiced in a user equipment or other wireless communication device, capitalizes on the advantageous recognition herein that the demodulation results obtained for at least some types of received data blocks may be inspected or otherwise evaluated for characteristic patterns that are indicative of whether the data block was or was not ciphered for transmission. That evaluation informs the selective deciphering decision.

Method and apparatus for selective communication signal deciphering

An efficient way is described for a user equipment, camping on a cell of a first radio access technology, RAT, to perform measurements on the transmissions from a neighboring radio cell of a different RAT. Recurrent time gaps that are available for making the measurements are not correlated or synchronized with the recurrent times at which the desired information are transmitted by the transmitter in the second RAT. Therefore, mapping is performed of the time gaps onto the interval at which the desired information is transmitted. The mapping continues until a time interval is covered that ensures that the information in the recurring desired block of information can be obtained. During the mapping of the measurement gaps, only those time intervals that have not already been covered by the mapping are used for obtaining the desired information.

Neighbour cell measurements

The present subject matter discloses a method for antenna activity detection in multi-antenna communication devices. In one embodiment, the method comprises computing a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value for each of a plurality of antennas based on a sampled data associated with each of the antennas. The RSSI values may then be analyzed to identify an antenna having a highest RSSI value as a primary antenna and one or more antennas having the RSSI value less than the highest RSSI value as auxiliary antennas. Further, an RSSI difference for each of the auxiliary antennas is calculated and compared with a first threshold value to ascertain one or more potentially inactive antennas from among the auxiliary antennas. The potentially inactive antennas may then be further analyzed to identify one or more inactive antennas based at least in part on the RSSI value.

Antenna activity detection in multi-antenna communication

A circuit for converting frequency domain information to time domain information includes an Inverse Fast Fourier Transform circuit having a length of N coefficients. The Inverse Fast Fourier Transform circuit is adapted to receive input data of length N coefficients and generate output data of length N coefficients that are circularly shifted by m coefficients. The circuit also includes Cyclical Prefix Insertion circuit adapted to insert a cyclical prefix of length m. The Cyclical Prefix Insertion circuit includes a first switch, connected to the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform circuit, a buffer, having an input connected to the first switch and an output, the buffer having a length m, and a second switch, coupled to the first switch and to the buffer. The first and second switches selectively couple the output of the buffer and the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform circuit to an output of the second switch. The buffer is reduced to length m.
