A position indicator includes: a pressure detector that detects a pressure applied to a tip portion as an electrical displacement amount corresponding to a magnitude of the pressure; a pressure output circuit that outputs pressure information indicating a first polarity or a second polarity, the pressure information indicating the first polarity if the electrical displacement amount detected by the pressure detector is greater than or equal to a predetermined value, the pressure information indicating the second polarity if the electrical displacement amount detected by the pressure detector is less than the predetermined value, the predetermined value being larger than a value of the electrical displacement amount detected by the pressure detector when no pressure is applied to the tip portion of the core body; and a transmitting circuit that transmits the pressure information indicating the first polarity or the second polarity output circuit to a position detecting device.

Position indicator and coordinate input device

An electronic pen includes a rectifier circuit, a first integrated circuit, and a second integrated circuit. The rectifier circuit, in operation, stores a voltage in a first capacitor based on energy received from a position detecting device. The first integrated circuit operates using the voltage stored in the first capacitor. The first integrated circuit, in operation, controls transmission of a first signal that is wirelessly transmitted from a pen tip. The second integrated circuit, in operation, wirelessly transmits a second signal after the voltage stored in the first capacitor is greater than a predetermined voltage.

Electronic pen

An electronic circuit of an electronic pen includes an integrated circuit, and a resonant circuit that is formed of a parallel circuit of a coil and a first capacitor and is externally connected to the integrated circuit. The integrated circuit includes a variable-capacitance circuit which, in operation, adjusts a frequency of the resonant circuit, and has a connection pin connecting the variable-capacitance circuit to outside of the integrated circuit. A first end of the parallel circuit is grounded and a second end of the parallel circuit is connected to a first end of a second capacitor externally connected to the integrated circuit. A second end of the second capacitor is connected to the connection pin of the integrated circuit and is connected to a diode which, in operation, clamps a potential of the second end of the second capacitor to a predetermined value.

Electronic circuit of electronic pen and electronic pen

An electronic pen includes a coil wound around a magnetic core, a first capacitor forming a resonance circuit with the coil, a rectifier circuit which, in operation, rectifies an alternating-current signal received by the resonance circuit, the rectifier circuit including a second capacitor, a voltage detecting circuit which, in operation, detects whether a rectified output voltage across the second capacitor of the rectifier circuit exceeds a predetermined value, a third capacitor having a capacitance that is larger than a capacitance of the second capacitor, and a charge control circuit which, in operation, controls supply of a charging current to the third capacitor by the rectified output voltage. The charge control circuit in operation, causes the charging current to be fed to the third capacitor by the rectified output voltage when the voltage detection circuit detects that the rectified output voltage obtained across the second capacitor exceeds the predetermined value.

In accordance with an embodiment, a method for discharging a power source such as, for example, a battery, includes determining a capacity of the battery and discharging the battery in response to the capacity of the battery being greater than a reference level. In accordance with another embodiment, a circuit suitable for use with a battery includes a power measurement circuit coupled to a discharge indicator circuit, a control circuit, and a load. The discharge indicator circuit is coupled to the control circuit, which is coupled to a switch configured for activating a discharge operation through the load.

Method of operating a battery and structure therefor

A touch panel has a plurality of conductors arranged for a position detection area and can detect a position pointed to by an active stylus held by a user and a manual touch by the user holding the active stylus. The touch panel includes: a signal transmission circuit that transmits, by capacitive coupling, a signal to the active stylus that can receive the signal transmitted from the touch panel by capacitive coupling with the touch panel; an active stylus pointing position detection circuit that detects the position pointed to by the active stylus by capacitive coupling with the active stylus; a touch detection circuit that detects the manual touch by the user; and a coupling control circuit that performs coupling control to couple one or more of the plurality of conductors and a ground of the touch panel in accordance with a touch detection result of the touch detection circuit.

Touch panel, signal processing device, and coupling method

A position indicator has a first electrode, an inverting amplifier and electrical isolation circuitry. The first electrode, in operation, receives an input signal from a capacitive touch panel and transmits a reference signal. The inverting amplifier has an input coupled to the first electrode, and, in operation, inverts and amplifies the input signal. The electrical isolation circuitry has an input coupled to an output of the inverting amplifier, and, in operation, generates the reference signal based on the inverted and amplified input signal.

Position indicator

A position indicator includes a resonant circuit configured to receive electromagnetic waves transmitted intermittently from a position detection device with a first duration and a second duration. The second duration is shorter than the first duration. The position indicator also includes a load resistance value control circuit configured to control a load resistance of the resonant circuit such that different values of the load resistance are set for the first duration and the second duration. A value of the load resistance set for the second duration is smaller than a value of the load resistance set for the first duration.

The controller is configured to output the reset request signal when the first detector detects the first voltage after the second detector detected the second detector.

Method for operating a backup circuit and circuit therefor

There is offered a battery charger for a portable electronic device that has a simple structure and is capable of detecting that the portable electronic device is connected to the battery charger. A first power supply line is connected to a positive terminal (+) of a rechargeable battery, while a ground line is connected to a negative terminal (&#x2212;) of the rechargeable battery. An output transistor is connected between the first power supply line and a second power supply line. The output transistor is connected to a Vbus terminal of a USB connector through the second power supply line. A controller outputs a voltage of an H level to the Vbus terminal to detect a change in a voltage at the Vbus terminal, and judges whether the portable electronic device is connected to the USB connector based on a result of the detection. The controller turns the output transistor on when the portable electronic device is judged to be connected to the USB connector.

In some embodiments, a capacitance discrimination circuit includes first and second capacitors, a comparator configured to compare a first voltage of the first capacitor and a second voltage of the second capacitor, a counter circuit configured to perform a count operation based on a comparison result of the comparator, a charge circuit configured to charge the first and second capacitors, and a control circuit configured to control the charge circuit so as to charge either the first capacitor or the second capacitor based on the comparison result of the comparator. The capacitance discrimination of the first and second capacitors is performed based on count values of the counter circuit. The capacitance discrimination circuit preferably includes a discharge circuit to discharge electric charges stored in the first and second capacitors in accordance with a discharge signal from the control circuit.
