A microcomputer which outputs address data to an external device for evaluating the address data comprising an address counter specifying an address of a program memory, an address data output section for outputting the address data in the address counter to the external device by use of a clock having a higher frequency provided from the external device than a clock for operating the microcomputer while applying a unit based on a bit number smaller than a bit number of the address data in the address counter.

Address data in an address counter is evaluated correctly. A microcomputer which outputs address data to an external device for evaluating the address data comprising an address counter specifying an address in a program memory, an address data output section which outputs, to the external device, discrimination data for discriminating whether or not the address data in the address counter is one which is branched in order for the external device to store only branched address data, the discrimination data being outputted together with the address data.

A microcomputer comprises: a first electric power source VDD1 to which a condenserused for backup is added; a second electric power source VDDto which the condenserused for backup is not added; and a resistance loadadded to the second electric power source. When a supply of voltage of the second electric power source VDDis stopped, a level of the second electric power source VDDis changed from a high level to a low level, and when the supply of voltage of the second electric power source VDDis resumed, the level of the second electric power source VDDis returned from the low level to the high level.

A program for rewriting data in an address region B is written in an address region A which can be rewritten by an external PROM writer. After resetting the microcomputer and rewriting the program in address region A, the reset state is cancelled and the last address in address region A of the EEPROM (1) is then stored in a register (17). An address detector (18) prohibits rewriting in address region A based on an address value stored in the register (17).
