When wireless systems are in communication with each other, transmit power levels can vary based on a distance between the communicating wireless systems. The transmit power levels may be varied by taking into consideration optimal values of performance indicators such as SNR. However, because a transmitting wireless system typically does not receive information that describes a communication channel as seen by a receiving wireless system, the transmitting wireless system may not be able to accurately determine when, whether, and by how much to reduce the transmit power without impairing signal reception ability at the receiving wireless system. Functionality can be implemented on the transmitting wireless system to vary the transmit power level based on comparing a percentage of packets transmitted at a maximum packet transmit rate with one or more thresholds. Such a variation of the transmit power levels can help reduce power consumption and ensure performance is not compromised.

Transmit power adaptation for wireless communication systems

A method of identifying radar in a wireless device includes detecting an event corresponding to receipt of a signal by the wireless device. The event can include an analog to digital converter (ADC) saturation, a radio frequency (RF) saturation, and/or an ADC power high condition. Notably, the gain change in the wireless device is delayed for a first predetermined time period. Data preceding the event for the first predetermined time period can be buffered. A first low-resolution fast Fourier transform (FFT), wherein low-resolution FFTs are referred to as short FFTs, can be performed with the buffered data. The first short FFT can be processed. When results of the processing indicate the signal is radar, the radar can then be identified.

Arbitration between two wireless protocols in a wireless device. The wireless device may include first wireless protocol circuitry, configured to receive and process first signals according to a first wireless protocol and second wireless protocol circuitry, configured to receive and process second signals according to a second wireless protocol. The wireless device may also include coexistence circuitry. The coexistence circuitry may be configured to receive a request from the first wireless protocol circuitry to perform transmission or reception and arbitrate the requested transmission or reception between the first wireless protocol circuitry and the second wireless protocol circuitry. The decision may be based on current or future priority information, current configuration, or other factors. The coexistence circuitry (or other circuitry) may be configured to determine position of switches controlling antennas or transmission using shared or unshared antennas (or chains). The two wireless protocols may be WLAN and Bluetooth.

In a training cycle, a source node transmits at least one pilot symbol to relay nodes in a training cycle. The relay nodes each amplifies and forwards the pilot symbol to a destination node in an assigned time slot in the training cycle. The destination node sequentially receives multiple versions of the pilot symbol from the relay nodes and estimates channel information based on the multiple versions of the pilot symbol. In data transmission cycles that follow the training cycle, the nodes apply coherent distributed space-time block code (DSTBC) with the estimated channel information to communicate data symbols. The power allocation between training and data cycles may be adjusted to improve the error performance. The nodes may also apply orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based DSTBC when timing errors are not known.
