A method and a system for determining metal loss in a layered system. The method may comprise disposing an EM metal loss tool downhole, broadcasting an electromagnetic field from the one or more transmitters of the EM metal loss tool into the layered system, recording the altered electromagnetic field with the one or more receivers, processing the signal with an information handling system, and determining metal loss in the layered system. A system may comprise an EM metal loss tool. The EM electromagnetic metal loss tool may comprise at least one transmitter and at least one receiver. The system may further comprise a conveyance, wherein the conveyance is attached to the electromagnetic metal loss tool, and an information handling system, wherein the information handling system is configured to process the altered electromagnetic field and determine metal loss in the layered system.

Method to assess sand screen system

A method for determining the activation of an expandable sand screen may comprise disposing an electromagnetic (EM) detection tool into a wellbore. The EM detection tool may comprise at least one transmitter and at least one receiver. The method may further comprise transmitting an EM field from the one or more transmitters into the expandable sand screen to energize the expandable sand screen and form an eddy current, recording a voltage of the eddy current with the at least one receiver, and determining an activation state of the expandable sand screen based at least partially on the voltage of the eddy current.

A method for measuring fluid flow including disposing a measurement device within a fluidic channel, the measurement device including a hydrodynamic central body, a plurality of arms coupled with and operable to extend from and retract to the hydrodynamic central body, and a plurality of sensors disposed within the hydrodynamic central body and distributed along the length of each of the plurality of arms; triggering, via an actuator, the plurality of arms to expand from the hydrodynamic central body until a portion of each of the plurality of arms abut a sidewall of the fluidic channel; collecting, via the plurality of sensors, measurements relating to one or more fluid flow parameters within the fluidic channel; triggering, via the actuator, the plurality of arms to contract inwards to the hydrodynamic central body; and retracting the measurement device from the fluidic channel.

Techniques for determining depth of a downhole tool in a wellbore include running a first downhole tool into a wellbore on a downhole conveyance; generating time-dependent logging data with the first downhole tool in the wellbore, at least one of the depth-dependent logging data or the time-dependent logging data associated with an electric or a magnetic property of a wellbore casing or a geological formation; correlating at the first downhole tool the time-dependent logging data with the depth-dependent logging data; and based on the correlation, determining at least one of a depth of the first downhole tool in the wellbore or a speed of the first downhole tool in the wellbore.

Determining downhole tool trip parameters

A system to monitor the retrieval of a well tool from a wellbore comprises a deployment member coupled to the well tool to retrievably insert the well tool in the wellbore. At least one first identification transducer is coupled to a top end of the well tool to transmit an identification signal during retrieval of the well tool. At least one second identification transducer is located at at least one axial location along a surface pressure control assembly to detect the identification signal. A controller is in data communication with the at least one second identification transducer to determine the position of the well tool relative to the pressure control assembly, and to output at least one command related to the position of the well tool relative to the pressure control assembly.

Apparatus and methods for monitoring the retrieval of a well tool

An apparatus and method for measuring the conductivity of borehole fluid. Based on the fluid conductivity, the fluid type may also be identified. The apparatus and method can be useful in differentiating between native water and injected water in oil recovery operations. The apparatus and method presented can also be used to calibrate testing and production equipment allowing for more reliable and accurate measurements. The apparatus and method presented can further be used to better characterize water to oil ratio in reservoirs.
