A detector to determine flaws in cement and casing associated with a formation using a visual representation of gamma rays received simultaneously through at least two windows that are of different sizes and that are diametrically opposite to each other in a rotating shield including a single scintillating crystal, where the visual representation is to indicate the flaws and includes a background with at least part of a contrast that is suppressed based in part on a gamma contrast range obtained from at least first gamma counts from gamma rays received at a first degree of alignment of the two windows with respect to an azimuth that is associated with the formation and second gamma counts from the gamma rays received at a second degree of alignment of the two windows that is offset from the first degree of alignment.

System and method for a cement and casing flaw detector with multi-sized

In at least one embodiment, a well inspection method and system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting an acoustic signal from a well inspection tool into a casing structure, receiving return signals from the casing structure to the well inspection tool, performing, using at least one processor associated with the well inspection tool, a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) on a plurality of frequencies of the return signals to generate spectrogram data, determining entropy spectra from the spectrogram data, and determining casing loadings associated with the casing structure based at least in part on the entropy spectra.

Characterization system and method for casing loading using entropy analysis

A system herein includes one or more processors to determine asymmetric compensation measurements from at least one receiver antenna pair and at least one transmitter antenna pair on a tool body in an underground formation. The asymmetric compensation measurements are to be used with symmetric compensation measurements from the plurality of antenna pairs. The asymmetric compensation measurements are associated with signals from individual transmitter antennas that are at asymmetric or unequal distances from individual receiver antennas that receive a version of the signals. The individual receiver antennas are part of the at least one receiver antenna pair having symmetrically located receiver antennas with respect to a midpoint of the tool body and the individual transmitter antennas are part of the at least one transmitter antenna pair having symmetrically located transmitter antennas with respect to a midpoint of the tool body.

Downhole logging using symmetric and asymmetric compensated resistivity measurements

A system for performing downhole logging operations includes a conductor coil configured to alternate between producing a magnetic field and measuring a magnetic field induced in a formation, a power supply couplable to the conductor coil for providing an electrical control current to conductor coil, and a signal acquisition system couplable to the conductor coil. The system further includes a permanent magnet coupled to the conductor coil, and a multi-state switch operable in a first state and a second state. In the first state, the conductor coil is coupled to an output of the power supply and decoupled from an input of the signal acquisition system. In the second state, the conductor coil is coupled to the input of acquisition electronics and decoupled from the output of the power supply.

Power-efficient transient electromagnetic evaluation system and method

A method includes obtaining a dielectric measurement of a portion of a downhole formation. The method also includes processing the dielectric measurement via a trained machine learning system. The method further includes determining at least one of a classification or a textural parameter simultaneously with formation water saturation of the downhole formation, via the machine learning system, based at least in part on the dielectric measurement. The machine learning system is based on a pre-determined dataset from previous measurements or simulated results of synthetic cases. The method determining the correlation between water saturation and formation texture through a frequency cascading training process based on sensitivity of complex dielectric spectrum with respect to desired parameters including water saturation and texture parameter. The method also includes assigning at least one of the classification or the textural parameter to the downhole formation.

Modeling textural parameters of a formation with downhole measurements

A computer-implemented method includes receiving a plurality of sensor signals, each signal of the plurality of sensor signals being tagged with an associated time and depth. The method also includes selecting a baseline signal. The method further includes comparing a selected sensor signal, of the plurality of sensor signals, to the baseline signal. The method also includes determining a difference between the baseline signal and the selected sensor signal exceeds a threshold. The method includes identifying, based at least in part on the difference, a feature of interest associated with the selected sensor signal.

Method and apparatus for multi-barrier transient electromagnetic (TEM) measurements

A method is provided of inspecting a nested multi-layer structure including a first and second electrically conductive layer and a third layer disposed behind the second conductive layer. The method includes deploying a sensor device including an electromagnetic acoustic transducer to a borehole location proximate to the structure, generating a drive signal including a plurality of frequencies, applying an electrical current signal to the sensor device based on the drive signal and inducing currents in the first conductive layer that induce currents generating acoustic signals having the plurality of frequencies, detecting a first set of resonant frequencies based on received electromagnetic signals, detecting a second set of resonant frequencies based on received acoustic signals, estimating a property of the first and/or the second conductive layer based on the first set of resonant frequencies, and estimating a property of the third layer based on the second set of resonant frequencies.

A system for determining a stuck point of a pipe positioned within a wellbore includes a tubular housing and a sensor array positioned within the tubular housing. The system also includes ferromagnetic flux collectors and flux concentrators on either side of the sensor array. The flux collectors collect a magnetic flux that has been written to a portion of pipe. The flux concentrators intensify the flux to improve measurements of the flux that are acquired by the sensor array.

The system further includes a second magnetic source positioned within the tubular housing, the second magnetic source arranged between the sensor array and the second end. The first magnetic source and the second magnetic source have a different magnetic field source.

Apparatus and methods for estimating a value of a resistivity property of an earth formation intersected by a borehole. Apparatus may include a carrier conveyable in the borehole; a tri-axial induction antenna assembly along the carrier; and a magnetically transparent sleeve enclosing the antenna assembly. The antenna assembly includes panels circumferentially arrayed about a portion of the carrier to form at least three collocated antennas. Each panel includes a magnetic core, an axially sensing coil that is transversely wound about the magnetic core, and a laterally sensing coil that is longitudinally wound about the magnetic core. The axially sensing coil of each panel may be electrically connected to the axially sensing coils of the other panels to form an axial antenna. Corresponding lateral coils may be electrically connected to form a lateral antenna. Each panel may be individually removable from the carrier, and assembled together may form a cylinder.

The at least one transmitter and at least one receiver may employ antenna assemblies comprising: a recess in the conducting tubular defined by at least one radially extending surface substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the conducting tubular and non-radially extending surfaces; an antenna in the recess; and conductive shielding, the conductive shielding having a conductivity significantly more than a conductivity of the conducting tubular and covering the whole of each of the plurality of radially extending surfaces.

Systems, devices, and methods for evaluating an earth formation. Methods may include inducing a current in the formation; measuring a time-dependent transient electromagnetic (TEM) signal induced by the formation responsive to the current; and estimating apparent resistivity values for each of a plurality of samples derived from the TEM measurement, wherein each sample corresponds to a discrete time window of the TEM measurement. Estimating the apparent resistivity values for each of the samples includes determining for each sample a simulated homogeneous formation that provides a best fit for the sample. The apparent resistivity values may be used to estimate distance to an interface. The apparent resistivity values or the estimated distance may be logged and the log displayed. The apparent resistivity values, the estimated distance, or the log may be used to conduct further operations in a borehole, including geosteering.
