System, method, and computer program product to perform an operation comprising deploying a first appliance including at least one service to a computing environment including a plurality of appliances, determining, for each service in the first appliance, whether the service is active on at least one other appliance of the plurality of appliances in the computing environment, and activating, on the first appliance, only each service not determined to be active on at least one other appliance of the plurality of appliances, so that each service determined to be active in at least one other appliance of the plurality of appliances is not activated on the first appliance.

The present disclosure includes a method that includes, by a solution appliance configured to administer resources in response to authorized users selecting tasks presented in a user interface, receiving an indication of a status change for a functional appliance configured to provide at least one of the resources, accessing a resource map that links the resources to the tasks, and indicating the status change for the functional appliance on the user interface based on the resource map.

The present invention provides a method of improving the response time to IT problems and ensuring that some will respond to a problem. In one embodiment, a management system uses a monitoring system to detect problem conditions with a managed device. When such an event occurs, the managed device sends a message containing a description of the alert to an intelligent agent. In response, the intelligent agent selects an administrator who is both qualified and available to respond to the alert, and then sends an instant message containing the description of the alert to the selected administrator. The administrator may accept responsibility for the alert by sending an instant message acknowledgement back to the intelligent agent. If the intelligent agent does not receive an acknowledgement, it automatically finds another administrator to respond to the alert.

System management using real time collaboration

A method and apparatus for synchronizing software between computers are disclosed. A software fix manager compares a preferred software inventory with a software inventory from a computer that is to be synchronized and, from this comparison, creates a number of software product synchronizations. An update manager uses the software fix list to apply software product synchronizations to the computer. Preferably, the computer can be brought to the same fix level or product level, if desired, as the preferred software inventory through this process. The software fix manager can place synchronizations in a fix list. There can be multiple software product synchronizations per software product, and the synchronizations can be applied to a computer by removing a software product fix or installing a product software fix. The current invention may also be applied to software products themselves, by installing or removing software products. The present invention potentially has its best application in networks, as numerous target computers or groups of target computers may be synchronized with a preferred software inventory of a model system.

Apparatus and method for synchronizing software between computers

Detection of a failure in a multi-system application, includes detecting a first message between a first system and a second system and creating a connection object representing a connection between the first system and the second system. Thereafter, connection status is monitored with the connection object to detect a connection or system failure. The same connection object is used for all subsequent messages between the first system and the second system. The multi-system application uses service objects on the first and the second system, and when a connection or system failure is detected, failure handling is initiated, including notifying all service objects of the failure.
