A cutting tool made of a cemented carbide substrate of WC, a metallic binder phase and gamma phase is provided. The cemented carbide has a well distributed gamma phase and a reduced amount of abnormal WC grains. The cutting tool has a more predicted tool life and an increased resistance against plastic deformation.

Cutting tool

The present disclosure relates to a cutting tool including a cemented carbide substrate having WC, gamma phase and a binder phase. The substrate is provided with a binder phase enriched surface zone, which is depleted of gamma phase, wherein no graphite and no ETA phase is present in the microstructure and wherein the binder phase is a high entropy alloy.

Cemented carbide with alternative binder

A coated cutting tool of a cemented carbide substrate made of WC, a metallic binder phase and a gamma phase has a well distributed gamma phase and a reduced amount of abnormal WC grains. Further, the coated cutting tool is provided with a CVD coating of TiCN and an &#x3b1;-AlOlayer, wherein the &#x3b1;-AlOlayer exhibits a texture coefficient TC(0 0 12)&#x2265;7.2 and wherein in the ratio I(0 0 12)/I(0 1 14)&#x2265;1. The coated cutting tool has an increased resistance against plastic deformation. whilst maintaining toughness.

A rock drill button having a body of sintered cemented carbide that has hard constituents of tungsten carbide (WC) in a binder phase of Co, wherein the cemented carbide has 4-12 mass % Co and balance WC and unavoidable impurities. The cemented carbide also has Cr in such an amount that the Cr/Co ratio is within the range of 0.043-0.19, and that the WC grain size mean value is above 1.75 &#x3bc;m.

Composition for a novel grade for cutting tools

A method of producing a component of a composite of diamond and a binder, wherein a Hot Isostatic gas Pressure process (HIP) is used, includes the step of enclosing a de-bound green body having compacted diamond particles in an infiltrant. The present invention relates to a method of making a cemented carbide comprising mixing in a slurry a first powder fraction and a second powder fraction, subjecting the slurry to milling, drying, pressing and sintering. The first powder fraction is made from cemented carbide scrap recycled using the Zn recovery process, comprising the elements W, C, Co, and at least one or more of Ta, Ti, Nb, Cr, Zr, Hf and Mo, and the second powder fraction comprising virgin raw materials of WC and possibly carbides and/or carbonitrides of one or more of Cr, Zr, W, Ta, Ti, Hf and Nb. The first powder fraction is subjected to a pre-milling step, prior to the step of forming the slurry, to obtain an average grain size of between 0.2 to 1.5 &#x3bc;m.

Method of making a cemented carbide

A coated cutting tool includes a coating and a substrate. The substrate is at least partly coated with a 4-10 &#x3bc;m thick coating comprising two adjacent Ti(C,N)-layers where the difference (&#x394;) between the residual stress state of the inner layer and the residual stress state of the outer layer is 1000 MPa&#x2266;&#x394;&#x2266;2500 MPa, on at least a part of the cutting edge and/or on at least a part of the rake face. A method to produce such a difference between the residual stress states is also disclosed.

The present invention relates to a fine grained WC-Co cemented carbide. By adding an extremely small amount of Ti, V, Zr, Ta or Nb alone or in combinations, a grain refined cemented carbide structure with less abnormal WC-grains has been obtained.

Fine grained cemented carbide with refined structure

A sintered cutting element including a superabrasive layer supported on a substrate. The superabrasive layer includes superabrasive material and secondary phase, and the substrate includes a binder phase. The sintered cutting element is formed by a high temperature high pressure sintering process in which separate source elements melt and sweep first through the superabrasive layer, and then to the substrate to form the secondary phase and binder phase. The superabrasive layer is substantially free of or free of eta-phase, CoWC. Further, the portion of the substrate nearest the interface between the superabrasive layer and the substrate has equal or more binder phase than portions of the substrate further from the interface. In certain embodiments, the superabrasive material includes polycrystalline diamond, and the substrate includes cobalt tungsten carbide.

High quality PCD compact

An alloy having from about 5 to about 15 wt % Ta, from 0 to about 5 wt % Nb, from about 0.5 to about 15 wt % Zr, and the balance Ti is disclosed. The alloy is particularly intended for medical devices, such as implants for the body.

Titanium-based alloy

The present invention relates to PVD coated cemented carbide cutting tool inserts semifinishing and finishing metal cutting operations. The cemented carbide cutting tool insert comprises a substrate and a wear resistant coating. The substrate comprises in addition to WC, from about 5.5 to about 8.5 wt-% Co and Cr such that the Cr/Co weight ratio is from about 0.08 to about 0.12 and also small amounts of Ti and Ta. The wear resistant coating is a homogeneous AlTiN-layer with x equals from about 0.6 to about 0.67. The thickness of this layer is from about 1 to about 3.8 &#x3bc;m.

Coated cemented carbide cutting tool insert

There is disclosed a method of making a ready to press cemented carbide powder with low compaction pressure suitable for the production of submicron cemented carbide by means of powder metallurgical techniques milling, pressing and sintering. The method comprises using from about 1 to about 3 wt-% pressing agent with the following composition, less than about 90 wt-% PEG and from about 10 to about 75 wt-% of blends of high molecular (C12-&#x3c;C20) saturated or unsaturated fatty acids, or salts thereof containing at least one element of Al, Ba, Ca, Co, Cr, Mg, N, Na, V, Zn. Preferably the grain size of the cemented carbide powder is submicron. In a preferred embodiment the method includes a dry pre-milling of the hard constituents mainly WC-powder for about 2-45 hours in ball mills with cemented carbide milling bodies or using other suitable dry milling techniques prior to a wet milling step. The invention also relates to the powder obtained by the method.

Method of making a submicron cemented carbide powder mixture with low compacting pressure and the resulting powder

The present invention relates to a cuffing insert for turning in heat resistant superalloys and stainless steels comprising a very fine grained hard substrate and a coating. The substrate comprises WC from about 5 to about 8 wt % Co and from about 0.3 to about 1.5 wt % Cr. In addition to that ppm levels of Ti and Ta are present. The ratio of Me/Co=(at-% Ti+ at-% Nb+ at-% Ta)/at-% Co is lower than or equal to about 0.014&#x2212;(CW_Cr)*0.008 and higher than about 0.0005. The average sintered WC-grain size is from about 0.5 to about 0.95 &#x3bc;m and CW_Cr from about 0.75 to about 0.95. The cemented carbide body is coated with a PVD TiAlN-coating with an average composition of x being greater than about 0.4 but less than about 0.9, present as a single or multilayer coating with a total thickness of from about 1 to about 6 &#x3bc;m.
